SB 2.8.7 Notes -11/16/21

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HH HARIVILAS MAHARAJ’S MORNING BHAGAVATAM CLASS ON SB 2.8.7:

  • Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the science of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and as such, all questions that may arise in the mind of a serious student must be cleared by the statements of the authority.
  • A person on the path of devotional service may inquire from his spiritual master all about the spiritual position of God and the living beings.
  • In the process of devotional service, the first step is to take shelter of the spiritual master and then inquire from the spiritual master all about the process. This inquiry is essential for immunity to all kinds of offenses on the path of devotional service.
  • The spiritual master must also be well versed and learned so that he may be able to answer all these inquiries from the devotees.
  • One who is not well versed in the authorized scriptures and not able to answer all such relevant inquiries should not pose as a spiritual master for the matter of material gain. It is illegal to become a spiritual master if one is unable to deliver the disciple.
  • Nitya-siddha means one who has no chance to forget Kṛṣṇa.
  • Sādhana-siddha means one has forgotten Kṛṣṇa. That is the position of all materialistic men. Every one of us, forgotten. But even though forgotten, the thing is there. It has to be awakened only. And the awakening process is hearing.
  • Anyone who has forgotten Kṛṣṇa somehow or other—the cause may be so many—but if he is given chance to hear about Kṛṣṇa… Śṛṇvatāṁ sva-kathāḥ kṛṣṇaḥ. As soon as somehow or other one begins to hear about Kṛṣṇa… Either by his natural inclination or by chance or any way, he comes to hear about Kṛṣṇa, attempts hearing about Kṛṣṇa, then, Kṛṣṇa is within everyone’s heart, Paramātmā, so Kṛṣṇa helps him immediately.
  • Bhajana means serving the Lord. So bhajatām, one who is engaged always, twenty-four hours he’s engaged, in that stage, Kṛṣṇa becomes is very pleased upon you = “No, now he has taken to My service. He’s engaged twenty-four hours. All right, let him give some instruction.”
  • So Kṛṣṇa is within you.One profit is, by hearing about Kṛṣṇa, he becomes gradually sinless, simply by hearing. Unless we are sinful, we don’t come into the material world.
  • So we have to become sinless before going back to home, back to Godhead. Because God is pure; the kingdom is pure. No impure living entity can enter there. So one has to become pure.
  • So this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is that once he’s given chance to erase all the sinful activities and keeping himself intact—no illicit sex, no intoxication, no meat-eating, no gambling—if we follow this regulation, then after initiation all my sins are washed off. And if I keep myself in that washed-off position, then where is the question of becoming sinful again?
  • Once washed off, now keep yourself in that washed-off condition. That is required.
So that will be possible if you keep yourself constantly in touch with Kṛṣṇa by hearing about Him. That’s all. You have to remain uncontaminated.
  • When one comes to the understanding that “I am eternal servant of Kṛṣṇa, God, and my only business is to serve Him,” that is called mukti.
  • When we become engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, this sense gratification business ceases. That is the test how you are becoming advanced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
  • The chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is the business of liberated soul, not for the conditioned soul. But even in our conditioned life we chant, we become gradually purified. Therefore it is recommended that everyone should chant.
  • Chanting the holy name of the medicine for the Bhava – Roga (means again and again taking birth) – cycle of birth and death. But the medicine is very pleasing.
  • It is very easy, even children can take up chanting of the holy name of the lord.
  • it is pleasing, even to the ordinary man..
  • For philosophers it is also pleasing
  • So either one is killing himself or killing animals, such a person cannot understand about the glories of the Lord.
  • BG 9.30, 31. 32  are the dispensation verses given by Krsna. These verses show how kind Krsna is, how merciful He is..
  • No one should take advantage of these verses and commit nonsense and think that he is still a devotee. If he does not improve in his character by devotional service, then it is to be understood that he is not a high devotee.
  • We should not overestimate our achievements in life, we should always be humble and meek.
  • The only qualification of a devotee is to be unflinchingly and exclusively engaged in devotional service.
  • Everyone is eligible for the supreme destination
  • Devotional service and the guidance of a pure devotee are so strong that there is no discrimination between the lower and higher classes of men; anyone can take to it. The most simple man taking shelter of the pure devotee can be purified by proper guidance.

SB 2.8.7 TRANSLATION:

O learned brāhmaṇa, the transcendental spirit soul is different from the material body. Does he acquire the body accidentally or by some cause? Will you kindly explain this, for it is known to you.

Mahārāja Parīkṣit, being a typical devotee, is not only satisfied by confirming the importance of hearing the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from the representative of Brahmājī by disciplic succession, but he is still more anxious to establish the philosophical basis of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the science of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and as such, all questions that may arise in the mind of a serious student must be cleared by the statements of the authority. A person on the path of devotional service may inquire from his spiritual master all about the spiritual position of God and the living beings. From the Bhagavad-gītā, as well as from the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, it is known that qualitatively the Lord and the living beings are one. The living being in the conditioned state of material existence is subjected to many transmigrations by continuous changing of the material body. But what are the causes of the material embodiment of the part and parcel of the Lord? Mahārāja Parīkṣit inquires about this very important matter for the benefit of all classes of candidates on the path of self-realization and devotional service to the Lord.

Indirectly it is confirmed that the Supreme Being, the Lord, makes no such material changes of body. He is spiritually whole, with no difference between His body and His soul, unlike the conditioned soul. The liberated living beings, who associate with the Lord in person, are also exactly like the Lord. Only the conditioned souls awaiting liberation are subjected to change of bodies. How was the process first begun?

In the process of devotional service, the first step is to take shelter of the spiritual master and then inquire from the spiritual master all about the process. This inquiry is essential for immunity to all kinds of offenses on the path of devotional service. Even if one is fixed in devotional service like Mahārāja Parīkṣit, he must still inquire from the realized spiritual master all about this. In other words, the spiritual master must also be well versed and learned so that he may be able to answer all these inquiries from the devotees. Thus one who is not well versed in the authorized scriptures and not able to answer all such relevant inquiries should not pose as a spiritual master for the matter of material gain. It is illegal to become a spiritual master if one is unable to deliver the disciple.

This is very interesting.

Someone asked – Prabhu is it really necessary to only read the bhagavatam? There are

so many other books there’s a mana shiksha and there’s nectar of devotions nectar of instruction and other devotees books? What is the story here? The story here is the sages of naimisharanya discussed  for 1000’s of years  what is the best for the people in Kali yuga and came to the conclusion that Regular hearing SB is the best way. We are not saying that anything is wrong with the other books.

SB  is the panacea (all encompassing cure for sense gratification, illusion, misery) for all the people of kali yuga.. We are going to hear SB till the last day.

LA June 1st 1972 (https://vedabase.io/en/library/transcripts/720601sbla)

Prabhupāda: So this is the difference between sādhana-siddha and nitya-siddha.

So nitya-siddha means he has no chance to forget Kṛṣṇa. That is called nitya-siddha. And sādhana-siddha means by following the regulative principles, the rules and regulations, one revives his Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Both things are siddha, because you cannot revive Kṛṣṇa consciousness without being Kṛṣṇa conscious. It may be covered. So nitya-siddha means he does not get covered by the influence of material nature about his natural devotion tendency to serve Kṛṣṇa. He never becomes covered. This is the difference. Kṛṣṇa gives him chance to get birth in such a family, just like Parīkṣit Mahārāja, that he never gets the chance of forgetting Kṛṣṇa. So one who does not get the chance of forgetting Kṛṣṇa is called nitya-siddha. This is the difference.

And sādhana-siddha means one has forgotten Kṛṣṇa. That is the position of all materialistic men. Every one of us, forgotten. But even though forgotten, the thing is there. It has to be awakened only. And the awakening process is hearing.

This is also explained in Bg 13th chapter –

BG 13.26

Again there are those who, although not conversant in spiritual knowledge, begin to worship the Supreme Person upon hearing about Him from others. Because of their tendency to hear from authorities, they also transcend the path of birth and death.

Just like you are out of your family touch for many years. Practically you have forgotten. Now, if somebody comes to you, some friend, “Do you remember your child, when he came out, he was such little, and now he is grown-up? Now he’s this, that, so on,” if for some days this topics of the family is…, then again he becomes attracted = “Let me go and see.” It is natural.

Similarly, anyone who has forgotten Kṛṣṇa somehow or other—the cause may be so many—but if he is given chance to hear about Kṛṣṇa… Śṛṇvatāṁ sva-kathāḥ kṛṣṇaḥ.

Kṛṣṇa helps both ways. If you want to forget Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa will help you in that way, so that you will be able to forget Kṛṣṇa. Similarly, if you want to revive your lost relationship with Kṛṣṇa again, Kṛṣṇa will help you.

These things are stated in the Bhagavad-gītā. Teṣāṁ nityābhiyuktānām. Teṣāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam [Bg. 10.10]. One who is engaged twenty-four hours in rendering service to the Lord with faith and devotion, bhajatām… Bhajatām, this word is used. Bhaja, sevā, service. Bhaja sevayā. Every verbal root has got particular meaning. When this bhajatām, bhajana… Just we call bhajana. Bhajana means serving the Lord. So bhajatām, one who is engaged always, teṣāṁ nitya, satata-yuktānām, twenty-four hours he’s engaged, in that stage, Kṛṣṇa is become…, Kṛṣṇa is very pleased upon you = “No, now he has taken to My service. He’s engaged twenty-four hours. All right, let him give some instruction.”

So Kṛṣṇa is within you. So śṛṇvatāṁ sva-kathāḥ kṛṣṇaḥ puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtanaḥ [SB 1.2.17]. One profit is, by hearing about Kṛṣṇa, he becomes gradually sinless, simply by hearing. Unless we are sinful, we don’t come into the material world. So we have to become sinless before going back to home, back to Godhead. Because kingdom of God… God is pure; the kingdom is pure. No impure living entity can enter there. So one has to become pure. That is also stated in the Bhagavad-gītā, yeṣām anta-gataṁ pāpam. “One who has completely been freed from all sinful reaction of his life,” yeṣāṁ anta-gataṁ pāpaṁ janānāṁ puṇya-karmaṇām, “and always engaged in pious activities, no more sinful activities.”

So this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is that once he’s given chance to erase all the sinful activities and keeping himself intact—no illicit sex, no intoxication, no meat-eating, no gambling—if we follow this regulation, then after initiation all my sins are washed off. And if I keep myself in that washed-off position, then where is the question of becoming sinful again? But once washed-off… You take your bath and again take the dust and throw on your body—that process will not help. If you say, “I’ll take again wash and again throw,” then what is the use of washing? Wash off. Once washed off, now keep yourself in that washed-off condition. That is required.

So that will be possible if you keep yourself constantly in touch with Kṛṣṇa by hearing about Him. That’s all. You have to remain uncontaminated. And that is puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtanaḥ. If you hear about Kṛṣṇa, then puṇya, you will be always in pious position. Puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtanaḥ. Either you chant or… Therefore our recommendation is always chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. So we should be careful about our slipping down again into the sinful activities, and everyone should be careful and keep oneself in the chanting process. Then he’s all right.

And gradually, as you go on hearing about Kṛṣṇa, the all the dirty things within the heart will be cleansed. The dirty things are that “I am a material body.” “I am American,” “I am Indian,” “I am Hindu,” “I am Muslim,” “I am this,” “I am that.” These are all different types of covering of the soul. The uncovered soul is fully conscious that “I am eternal servant of God.” That’s all. One has no other identification. That is called mukti. When one comes to the understanding that “I am eternal servant of Kṛṣṇa, God, and my only business is to serve Him,” that is called mukti.

Mukti does not mean that you will have another two hands, another two legs. No. The same thing, simply it is cleansed. Just like a man is suffering from fever. The symptoms are so many, but as soon as the fever is not there, then all the symptoms gone. So our this fever in this material world is sense gratification. Sense gratification. This is the fever. So when we become engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, this sense gratification business ceases. That is the difference. That is the test how you are becoming advanced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Bhaktiḥ pareśānubhavo viraktir anyatra syāt [SB 11.2.42]. That is the test.

So… Because this disease is called bhava-roga… Bhava-roga means again and again taking birth. Bhava-roga. But if we take the medicine, bhavauṣadhi… Everything is there in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Bhava-roga, the disease of repeated birth and death in the material world, and the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is bhavauṣadhi, the medicine to cure this bhava-roga. Bhavauṣadhāc chrotra-mano-‘bhirāmāt, ka uttamaśloka-guṇānuvādāt virajyeta pumān vinā paśughnāt [SB 10.1.4]. Nivṛtta-tarṣair upagīyamānāt. There are very nice verses in Bhāgavatam. Nivṛtta-tarṣair upagīyamānāt. This chanting of the holy name of Kṛṣṇa, or God, is possible by a person who is disgusted with all these material activities. They can actually chant. That means mukta-puruṣa, liberated soul. It is… The chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is the business of liberated soul, not for the conditioned soul. But even in our conditioned life we chant, we become gradually purified. Therefore it is recommended that everyone should chant.

Never mind, nama oṁ apavitraḥ pavitro vā yaḥ smaret puṇḍarīkākṣam. Anyone who remembers the Puṇḍarīkākṣa… By chanting, you’ll remember. So nivṛtta-tarṣair upagīyamānād bhavauṣadhi. It is the medicine for our this bhava-roga, repeated birth and death. Such a nice thing. Nivṛtta-tarṣair upagīyamānād bhavauṣadhi chrotra-mano-‘bhirāmāt. Not only it is medicine… Medicine is always bitter. But it is not bitter. Mano ‘bhirāmāt: it is very pleasing to the mind, to the senses. Otherwise, how we become ecstatic in chanting unless it is pleasing? It is medicine, but pleasing medicine. Other medicines, they are very bitter. If you practice yoga, oh, you have to take so much labor. And that, you do not know whether you’ll be successful or not, haṭha-yoga. And if you take to jñāna, that also requires much education, much understanding of philosophy.

So they actually, although they are medicine, but they are bitter medicine. Not very palatable. Neither everyone can take it. A child cannot become a jñānī. A child cannot become a yogī. But a child can become a bhakta. Therefore this is the easiest process. Pleasing. Everyone is pleased to execute this process. Nivṛtta-tarṣair upagīyamānād bhavauṣadhi chrotra-mano-‘bhirāmāt [SB 10.1.4]. Mano-‘bhirāmāt. Even for ordinary men who wants to hear about conjugal love… They read therefore so many novel, fiction, dramas. What is that? The love affairs between one young man, one young girl. But that is also there, Kṛṣṇa, Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa. In that sense also, it is pleasing, even to the ordinary man.

So, mano ‘bhirāmāt, it is very pleasing. Nivṛtta-tarṣaiḥ… For philosophers it is also pleasing. We are talking all of philosophy in Bhāgavata. Nivṛtta-tarṣair upagīyamānād bhavauṣadhi chrotra-mano-‘bhirāmāt. Ka uttamaśloka-guṇānuvādāt. Uttamaśloka is Kṛṣṇa, who is worshiped by offering nice, selected ślokas, authorized. Just like we offer prayer, cintāmaṇi-prakara-sadmasu kalpa-vṛkṣa… [Bs. 5.29]. Each line is full of poetry, poetic and literary character, grammar. Anything you take, they’re all full. All Bhāgavata, all Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. You cannot produce such literature in this days, such meaningful. Because Vyāsadeva was incarnation, he could produce. Therefore it is uttamaśloka: by the best selected verses, Kṛṣṇa is described.

So who can be away from such activities, to hear about Uttamaśloka through nice verses, philosophy? Who can be bereft? Vinā paśughnāt [SB 10.1.4] = only the animal-hunter or the animal-killer. The animal-killer cannot understand. Therefore it is prohibited = no meat-eating, no flesh-eating. This is the greatest disqualification for understanding. One cannot understand. The animal-killer cannot understand. Therefore it has to be stopped. Vinā paśughnāt. Paśughnāt means… Ghna means killer, and paśu means animal. And another meaning is, paśu means oneself, living entity—ghna. So either one is killing himself or killing animals, such person cannot understand about the glories of the Lord. It is not possible. Parīkṣit Mahārāja said that, ka uttamaśloka-guṇānuvādāt virajyeta vinā paśughnāt. Only the animal-killer.

So, have kīrtana.

SB 2.1.5

tasmād bhārata sarvātmā

bhagavān īśvaro hariḥ

śrotavyaḥ kīrtitavyaś ca

smartavyaś cecchatābhayam

O descendant of King Bharata, one who desires to be free from all miseries must hear about, glorify and also remember the Personality of Godhead, who is the Supersoul, the controller and the savior from all miseries.

Only books about Krsna – BG & SB, transcendental pastimes of Krsna and His devotees.

Help people understand – Krishna gives special dispensation. (Exemption of the rule, giving a loop hole)

Krishna has given Hari naam sankirtan..

If you want victory in this age – just chant Hare Krsna maha mantra..

Greatest quality of Kali Yuga.. just by chanting sincerely you can go back to Godhead..

  • Even thinking good you get the result
  • Even if you think bad there is no affect, until you act bad
  • Even if you do not get initiated and chant the holy name you get delivered. The holy name is so powerful..  Not to say that you should not get initiated.. we’re all coming from low backgrounds

Krsna is giving dispensation so that his devotees can go back to Him easily. But if one does not hear SB regularly, he does not even want to go back to Him.

These 4 verses – Krishna is giving the dispensations – loop holes

BG 9.30

shows how kind Krsna is

Even if one falls down if he is engages in DS he is

Even if one commits the most abominable action, if he is engaged in devotional service he is to be considered saintly because he is properly situated in his determination.

One should not misuse this dispensation. Three strikes and you are out. NOT premeditated fall down, but only accidental fall downs..

On the other hand, one should not misunderstand that a devotee in transcendental devotional service can act in all kinds of abominable ways; this verse only refers to an accident due to the strong power of material connections. Devotional service is more or less a declaration of war against the illusory energy. As long as one is not strong enough to fight the illusory energy, there may be accidental falldowns. But when one is strong enough, he is no longer subjected to such falldowns, as previously explained. No one should take advantage of this verse and commit nonsense and think that he is still a devotee. If he does not improve in his character by devotional service, then it is to be understood that he is not a high devotee.

Example – Devotee who smoked marijuna to preach.. In Amsterdam..

Material energy is very powerful.

One devotee who was always reading SP books.. Went to a mayavadi philosopher class and he converted to mayavadi philosophy.. Blown away by their quoting of BG verses..

We should not overestimate our achievements in life we should always be

humble and meek.

And but preach yes we should preach but not think that we can conquer the whole

World – first we have to conquer our desire to have sense gratification that could take

a very very long time and once you do conquer that then still you would not go to places where people are openly violating the four regulative principles because

just witnessing such a thing makes you fallen already.

Example – One devotee murdered another devotee. He was caught and was convicted and has been in jail for 40 years.. But he is a devotee, he is chanting nicely.. He is preaching nicely.. He got the just punishment he can never get out of Jail.. there is no reason to criticize him.

Therefore a person who is situated in Kṛṣṇa consciousness and is engaged with determination in the process of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare should be considered to be in the transcendental position, even if by chance or accident he is found to have fallen. The words sādhur eva, “he is saintly,” are very emphatic. They are a warning to the nondevotees that because of an accidental falldown a devotee should not be derided; he should still be considered saintly even if he has accidentally fallen down. And the word mantavyaḥ is still more emphatic. If one does not follow this rule, and derides a devotee for his accidental falldown, then one is disobeying the order of the Supreme Lord. The only qualification of a devotee is to be unflinchingly and exclusively engaged in devotional service.

BG 9.31

Even if a devotee accidentally falls he will quickly become righteous due to the cleansing process..

He quickly becomes righteous and attains lasting peace. O son of Kuntī, declare it boldly that My devotee never perishes.

This should not be misunderstood. In the Seventh Chapter the Lord says that one who is engaged in mischievous activities cannot become a devotee of the Lord. One who is not a devotee of the Lord has no good qualifications whatsoever. The question remains, then, How can a person engaged in abominable activities – either by accident or by intention – be a pure devotee? This question may justly be raised. The miscreants, as stated in the Seventh Chapter, who never come to the devotional service of the Lord, have no good qualifications, as is stated in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Generally, a devotee who is engaged in the nine kinds of devotional activities is engaged in the process of cleansing all material contamination from the heart. He puts the Supreme Personality of Godhead within his heart, and all sinful contaminations are naturally washed away. Continuous thinking of the Supreme Lord makes him pure by nature. According to the Vedas, there is a certain regulation that if one falls down from his exalted position he has to undergo certain ritualistic processes to purify himself. But here there is no such condition, because the purifying process is already there in the heart of the devotee, due to his remembering the Supreme Personality of Godhead constantly. Therefore, the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare should be continued without stoppage. This will protect a devotee from all accidental falldowns. He will thus remain perpetually free from all material contaminations.

i can show you where prabhupada says even if one is committing offenses one

should not stop chanting but one should correct the offenses by getting help

from a senior devotee and continue chanting under no circumstances so one give up chanting but they should get help to chant purely

BG 9.32

Everyone is eligible for the supreme destination

O son of Pṛthā, those who take shelter in Me, though they be of lower birth – women, vaiśyas [merchants] and śūdras [workers] – can attain the supreme destination.

Everyone is eligible for the supreme destination. In the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (2.4.18) it is stated that even the lowest, who are called caṇḍālas (dog-eaters), can be purified by association with a pure devotee. Therefore devotional service and the guidance of a pure devotee are so strong that there is no discrimination between the lower and higher classes of men; anyone can take to it. The most simple man taking shelter of the pure devotee can be purified by proper guidance.

so here’s a formula for success for all types of people people who are following

krishna consciousness people who were following but fell down and human

people who are not following if you simply become humble and take instruction and what is that instruction –  it’s hearing srimad-bhagavatam every day from genuine devotee or devotees and then of course = “engage your mind always in thinking of Me become My devotee offer obeisances to unto Me and worship me being completely absorbed in me surely you will come to me”

if we just stick to the four regulative principles you’ll never have a problem if you rationalize well this is for preaching just like there was one sannyasi in ISKCON whenever he would see someone who could become his disciple he would give him a picture of his feet a photo of his feet put this on the altar and worshiped it you know so there was one girl that was doing that and she said maharaj i’ve been worshiping your feet every day it’s so wonderful it’s giving me so much spiritual advancement but i would like to actually massage your feet you know because i’m meditating on them all so he said okay so eventually he fell down how can a sanyasi accept that a girl can massage his feet?  but it was the feet first then the ankle this is all crazy stuff right by the way why is he giving a picture of his feet you know well is that going to help the girl you know it’s better she meditated on Srila Prabhupad right anyway here we see how one thing leads to another thing leads to another thing eventually they fall down so we should not play games with maya maya is stronger than us we just stick to the regulative principles and chanting hare krishna and hearing regularly and doing service then there won’t be any problem. That he overestimated

That devotee who smoked marijuna –  he overestimated his abilities

yeah he figured he was puffed up because he always chanting chanting  Hare Krsna everybody’s face all the time right you say something  like that he wouldn’t even answer you this is uh dangerous oh my god that’s called being puffed up now we should always be lower than the straw on the street then we won’t have a problem of what everybody has that krsna’s in the heart and we’re all originally with krishna go ahead Yes no they never fall down well they they come here because krsna sends them to spread krishna consciousness, the nithya siddhas have never fallen Down but sometimes one can be sent here to do special preaching to help those fallen Souls like arjuna arjuna never goes back to godhead it’s always in a material world with krishna preaching and teaching others how to be Krsna Conscious so some people they’re always liberated in the material world and some people Are liberating the spiritual world arjun is a very special devotee so anytime krishna appears anywhere in the material world he’s with him okay good.

SB 2.8.6 Notes – 11/15/21

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HH HARIVILAS MAHARAJ’S MORNING BHAGAVATAM CLASS ON SB 2.8.6:

  • One who is not a pure devotee of the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa is not completely cleansed in the heart.
  • a perfectly cleansed person never quits the devotional service of the Lord.
  • sometimes a representative of the Lord engaged in preaching work meets various so-called difficulties.
  • But such difficulties are very gladly suffered by the devotees in preaching because in such activities, although apparently very severe, the devotees of the Lord feel transcendental pleasure because the Lord is satisfied.
  • Prahlāda Mahārāja suffered greatly, but still he never forgot the lotus feet of the Lord. This is because a pure devotee of the Lord is so purified in his heart that he cannot leave the shelter of Lord Kṛṣṇa in any circumstances. There is no self-interest in such service.
  • The progress of culturing knowledge by the jñānīs or the bodily gymnastics by the yogīs are ultimately given up by the respective performers, but a devotee of the Lord cannot give up the service of the Lord, for he is ordered by his spiritual master.
  • Pure devotees like Nārada and Nityānanda Prabhu take up the order of the spiritual master as the sustenance of life. They do not mind what becomes of the future of their lives. They take the matter very seriously, as the order comes from the higher authority, from the representative of the Lord, or from the Lord Himself
  • A pure devotee of the Lord is exactly in a family tie with the Lord, and therefore he is undeterred in discharging his duty in a full affectionate tie with the Lord

SB 2.8.6 TRANSLATION:

A pure devotee of the Lord whose heart has once been cleansed by the process of devotional service never relinquishes the lotus feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa, for they fully satisfy him, as a traveler is satisfied at home after a troubled journey.

One who is not a pure devotee of the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa is not completely cleansed in the heart. But a perfectly cleansed person never quits the devotional service of the Lord. In discharging such devotional service, as ordered by Brahmājī to Nārada in the preaching of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, sometimes a representative of the Lord engaged in preaching work meets various so-called difficulties. This was exhibited by Lord Nityānanda when He delivered the two fallen souls Jagāi and Mādhāi, and similarly Lord Jesus Christ was crucified by the nonbelievers. But such difficulties are very gladly suffered by the devotees in preaching because in such activities, although apparently very severe, the devotees of the Lord feel transcendental pleasure because the Lord is satisfied. Prahlāda Mahārāja suffered greatly, but still he never forgot the lotus feet of the Lord. This is because a pure devotee of the Lord is so purified in his heart that he cannot leave the shelter of Lord Kṛṣṇa in any circumstances. There is no self-interest in such service. The progress of culturing knowledge by the jñānīs or the bodily gymnastics by the yogīs are ultimately given up by the respective performers, but a devotee of the Lord cannot give up the service of the Lord, for he is ordered by his spiritual master.

Science of Krsna – engaging in bhakti yoga full time.

Devotees are always engaged in pleasing Krsna.. He cultivates the  knowledge of science of Krsna

Culturing knowledge for pratishtha, center of attraction,

Major difference is culturing knowledge in KC leads to constant engagement in devotional service..

Everything depends on the motive..

Pure devotees like Nārada and Nityānanda Prabhu take up the order of the spiritual master as the sustenance of life. They do not mind what becomes of the future of their lives. They take the matter very seriously, as the order comes from the higher authority, from the representative of the Lord, or from the Lord Himself.

Everyone is worried about their future.. But the devotee is not.. Major difference between person who is deluded by the dualities and who is culturing knowledge for pratishta and the devotee who is culturing knowledge of Krsna to always engage in devotional service to please Krsna and guru.

YOu cannot play games with Prabhupada’s and Krsna’s movement of ISKCON. ISKCON is not mine or somebody else’s this is Prabhupada and Krsna’s movement. This is a divine movement it has nothing to do with material world. If you read Prabhupada’s books, letters,, it is the direct desire of Lord Caitanya Maha prabhu and Lord Krsna. Anyone who is a leader in the movement does not follow the regulations properly .. they will eventually fall down..

The example set herein is very appropriate. A traveler leaves home to search for wealth in far distant places, sometimes in the forest and sometimes on the ocean and sometimes on hilltops. Certainly there are many troubles for the traveler when he is in such unknown places. But all such troubles are at once mitigated as soon as the sense of his family affection is remembered, and as soon as he returns home he forgets all such troubles on the way.

A pure devotee of the Lord is exactly in a family tie with the Lord, and therefore he is undeterred in discharging his duty in a full affectionate tie with the Lord.

This is Krsna‘s family.. If we have affection for Krsna’s family..  How do we express affection — dadati prati grhnati..

I was told to open a temple in France.. Even though I was not fluent in French.

Whenever Krsna gives more service never let it go..

If you chant your rounds and follow the regulative principles.. Krishna will give the intelligence.. We were asked to do all kinds of things.. We were able to get that intelligence from Krsna and we were about to do miraculous things.. Faith in Prabhupda and Krsna two parallel tracks.. Temple is a holy place like Vrindavan.. You feel great relief as everyone is trying to be Krsna Conscious.. If they see everybody cooperating and friendly affectionate way.. They want to keep coming..

It is very difficult for them to forget Krsna because of the purity of the activities

And the joy they feel because of the activities.

Any affection for Srila Prabhupada & his disciples- one feels duty bound and do his duty to the best of his ability and leave the rest to Krsna. Who is sincere, affectionate, tries to follow the regulations of KC  – due to  Loyalty, fidelity, dutifulness.. The lord protects..

Bhoktaram Yajna tapasam..

BG 5.29

A person in full consciousness of Me, knowing Me to be the ultimate beneficiary of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods, and the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities, attains peace from the pangs of material miseries.

  1. Ultimate beneficiary
  2. Supreme lord of all planets and demigods
  3. Well wisher of all living beings

The conditioned souls within the clutches of the illusory energy are all anxious to attain peace in the material world. But they do not know the formula for peace, which is explained in this part of the Bhagavad-gītā. The greatest peace formula is simply this: Lord Kṛṣṇa is the beneficiary in all human activities. Men should offer everything to the transcendental service of the Lord because He is the proprietor of all planets and the demigods thereon. No one is greater than He. He is greater than the greatest of the demigods, Lord Śiva and Lord Brahmā. In the Vedas (Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad 6.7) the Supreme Lord is described as tam īśvarāṇāṁ paramaṁ maheśvaraṁ. Under the spell of illusion, living entities are trying to be lords of all they survey, but actually they are dominated by the material energy of the Lord. The Lord is the master of material nature, and the conditioned souls are under the stringent rules of material nature. Unless one understands these bare facts, it is not possible to achieve peace in the world either individually or collectively. This is the sense of Kṛṣṇa consciousness: Lord Kṛṣṇa is the supreme predominator, and all living entities, including the great demigods, are His subordinates. One can attain perfect peace only in complete Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

This Fifth Chapter is a practical explanation of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, generally known as karma-yoga. The question of mental speculation as to how karma-yoga can give liberation is answered herewith. To work in Kṛṣṇa consciousness is to work with the complete knowledge of the Lord as the predominator. Such work is not different from transcendental knowledge. Direct Kṛṣṇa consciousness is bhakti-yoga, and jñāna-yoga is a path leading to bhakti-yoga. Kṛṣṇa consciousness means to work in full knowledge of one’s relationship with the Supreme Absolute, and the perfection of this consciousness is full knowledge of Kṛṣṇa, or the Supreme Personality of Godhead. A pure soul is the eternal servant of God as His fragmental part and parcel. He comes into contact with māyā (illusion) due to the desire to lord it over māyā, and that is the cause of his many sufferings. As long as he is in contact with matter, he has to execute work in terms of material necessities. Kṛṣṇa consciousness, however, brings one into spiritual life even while one is within the jurisdiction of matter, for it is an arousing of spiritual existence by practice in the material world. The more one is advanced, the more he is freed from the clutches of matter. The Lord is not partial toward anyone. Everything depends on one’s practical performance of duties in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, which helps one control the senses in every respect and conquer the influence of desire and anger. And one who stands fast in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, controlling the above mentioned passions, remains factually in the transcendental stage, or brahma-nirvāṇa. The eightfold yoga mysticism is automatically practiced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness because the ultimate purpose is served. There is a gradual process of elevation in the practice of yama, niyama, āsana, prāṇāyāma, pratyāhāra, dhāraṇā, dhyāna and samādhi. But these only preface perfection by devotional service, which alone can award peace to the human being. It is the highest perfection of life.

Thus end the Bhaktivedanta Purports to the Fifth Chapter of the Śrīmad Bhagavad-gītā in the matter of Karma-yoga, or Action in Kṛṣṇa Consciousness.

Chant with feeling

Follow the rules and regulations

We remain in the transcendental stage of Brahma Nirvana..

Everything depends on the one;s practical performance of duties in KC

Spiritual master is very kind – Chant 16  good rounds, come for mangal arti.

Every body has to do it, the spiritual master has to do it, disciple has to do it. So everybody makes spiritual advancement.

ISO TEXT 17 (Pls remember by sacrifices)

Let this temporary body be burnt to ashes, and let the air of life be merged with the totality of air. Now, O my Lord, please remember all my sacrifices, and because You are the ultimate beneficiary, please remember all that I have done for You.

Dutifully perform the service..

Arjuna was refusing to do his duty

What will stop one from performing the duties – It is due to duality. Everyone is bewildered by duality in this material world.

BG 7.27 (Dualities)

O scion of Bharata, O conqueror of the foe, all living entities are born into delusion, bewildered by dualities arisen from desire and hate.

The real constitutional position of the living entity is that of subordination to the Supreme Lord,

who is pure knowledge. When one is deluded into separation from this pure knowledge, he becomes controlled by the illusory energy and cannot understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The illusory energy is manifested in the duality of desire and hate. Due to desire and hate, the ignorant person wants to become one with the Supreme Lord and envies Kṛṣṇa as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Pure devotees, who are not deluded or contaminated by desire and hate, can understand that Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa appears by His internal potencies, but those who are deluded by duality and nescience think that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is created by material energies. This is their misfortune. Such deluded persons, symptomatically, dwell in dualities of dishonor and honor, misery and happiness, woman and man, good and bad, pleasure and pain, etc., thinking, “This is my wife; this is my house; I am the master of this house; I am the husband of this wife.” These are the dualities of delusion. Those who are so deluded by dualities are completely foolish and therefore cannot understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

We have to hear BG & SB everyday right upto the last minute of our life. This is our absolute duty to hear BG & SB everyday.

We have to understand why we fell from the spiritual world. Envy of Krsna.. When we fell down,.. Prisoners of maya.. Birth after birth.. One is always chasing the dualities..

Even devotees have difficult times, Nithyanada – Jagai and Madai, Jesus Christ – Crucified.. Praha

SB 2.8.5 Notes – 11/14/21

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HH HARIVILAS MAHARAJ’S MORNING BHAGAVATAM CLASS ON SB 2.8.5:

  • It is said that a single pure devotee of the Lord can deliver all the fallen souls of the world.
  • One who is actually in the confidence of a pure devotee like Nārada or Śukadeva Gosvāmī and thus is empowered by one’s spiritual master, as Nārada was by Brahmājī, can not only deliver himself from the clutches of māyā, or illusion, but can deliver the whole world by his pure and empowered devotional strength.
  • A powerful pure devotee of the Lord, however, can deliver not only his personal self but also many others in his association.
  • The cleansing of the polluted heart by other methods (like the culture of empiric knowledge or mystic gymnastics) can simply cleanse one’s own heart, but devotional service to the Lord is so powerful that it can cleanse the hearts of the people in general, by the devotional service of the pure, empowered devotee.
  • Not only were all the pure devotees like Nārada self-realized souls, but they were engaged in preaching work automatically by spiritual impetus, and thus they delivered many poor souls entangled in the material modes.
  • They became so powerful because they sincerely followed the Bhāgavatam principles by regular hearing and worshiping.
  • The Lord is always within the heart of the living being, but He becomes manifested by one’s devotional service.
  • Devotional service to the Lord is the only method of cleansing the heart for good. Whereas other methods may be superficially good for the time being, there is a risk of becoming muddy again due to agitation of the mind.
  • Devotional service to the Lord, with specific attention for hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam regularly and always, is the best recommended method for liberation from the clutches of illusion.
  • Quote of the day – the burden of useless theories can be avoided, simply by following the Sastras.

SB 2.8.5 TRANSLATION:

The sound incarnation of Lord Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Soul [i.e., Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam], enters into the heart of a self-realized devotee, sits on the lotus flower of his loving relationship, and thus cleanses the dust of material association, such as lust, anger and hankering. Thus it acts like autumnal rains upon pools of muddy water.

It is said that a single pure devotee of the Lord can deliver all the fallen souls of the world. Thus one who is actually in the confidence of a pure devotee like Nārada or Śukadeva Gosvāmī and thus is empowered by one’s spiritual master, as Nārada was by Brahmājī, can not only deliver himself from the clutches of māyā, or illusion, but can deliver the whole world by his pure and empowered devotional strength. The comparison to the autumnal rain that falls on muddy reservoirs of water is very appropriate. During the rainy season, all the waters of the rivers become muddy, but in the month of July-August, the autumn season, when there is a slight rainfall, the muddy waters of the rivers all over the world become at once clear. By addition of some chemical, a small reservoir of water like that of a metropolitan waterworks tank can be cleared, but by such a tiny effort it is not possible to clear up all the reservoirs of water like the rivers. A powerful pure devotee of the Lord, however, can deliver not only his personal self but also many others in his association.

In other words, the cleansing of the polluted heart by other methods (like the culture of empiric knowledge or mystic gymnastics) can simply cleanse one’s own heart, but devotional service to the Lord is so powerful that it can cleanse the hearts of the people in general, by the devotional service of the pure, empowered devotee. A true representative of the Lord like Nārada, Śukadeva Gosvāmī, Lord Caitanya, the Six Gosvāmīs and later Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura and Śrīmad Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura, etc., can deliver all people by their empowered devotional service.

By sincere efforts to hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam one realizes his constitutional relationship with the Lord in the transcendental humor of servitude, friendship, parental affection or conjugal love, and by such self-realization one becomes situated at once in the transcendental loving service of the Lord. Not only were all the pure devotees like Nārada self-realized souls, but they were engaged in preaching work automatically by spiritual impetus, and thus they delivered many poor souls entangled in the material modes. They became so powerful because they sincerely followed the Bhāgavatam principles by regular hearing and worshiping. By such actions the accumulated material lusts, etc., become cleansed by the personal endeavor of the Lord within the heart. The Lord is always within the heart of the living being, but He becomes manifested by one’s devotional service.

Purification of the heart by culture of knowledge or mystic yoga may be all right for the time being for an individual person, but it is like the cleansing of a small quantity of stagnant water by chemical processes. Such clarification of water may stand for the time being and the sediments settle down, but by a slight agitation everything becomes muddy. The idea is that devotional service to the Lord is the only method of cleansing the heart for good. Whereas other methods may be superficially good for the time being, there is a risk of becoming muddy again due to agitation of the mind. Devotional service to the Lord, with specific attention for hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam regularly and always, is the best recommended method for liberation from the clutches of illusion.

Due to the profound contamination after spending millions of life times  doing sense gratification.

Hear and repeat everyday

By being in anxiety, economic down time

When you are afraid you make fast decisions

Businessmen and politicians make money by putting people in situation of fear.

Examples – Y2K, Mayan Calendar 2012, ….

There is always going to be something wrong in this material world. Because it is the law of nature.

BG 5.22

The more one is addicted to material pleasures, the more he is entrapped by material miseries.

Material body – prison house, anything can go wrong at any time.

Durga mata is the incharge of the material body.

Examples – All diseases, a woman who was healthy died, Friend ‘s son 9 years old died due to health.

Everything in this world is Misinformation and lies.

We have to instill the cleansing process in our children.

They should see the parents engaged in dev service with the love and devotion.

Rules in the house – how are you going to do things in the house

  • Krsna should be the thakur of the house (Bhoktaram yagna tapasa)

Every member in the temple should be dedicated to serve the deity and be concerned in distribution of the mercy of the

Devotee is unhappy to see others being unhappy. He will try to do everything to help them.

You get happy by pleasing Krsna. Krishna is happy we will become happy.

We will not be happy by hoarding, spending..

SOME PEOPLE GET ANGRY ALL THE TIME- They have many strong material desires and they are not ablet to get them fulfilled easily. Hence they get angry.

LUST- overwhelmed by the desire and cant keep thinking of anything else.

HANKERING- on the moment desiring something

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HH HARIVILAS MAHARAJ’S MORNING BHAGAVATAM CLASS ON SB 2.8.4 TODAY (11/13/21):

  • Cheap devotees or materialistic devotees of the Lord are very much desirous to see the Lord personally without meeting the requisite qualifications.
  • The pseudo devotee  is very anxious to see the Lord according to his whims, not making any serious effort to hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam regularly and without detachment from material benefit.
  • Mahārāja Parīkṣit personally recommends that one hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam regularly, nityam, always by one’s own effort and with serious devotion also. That will help one to see the Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa manifested in one’s heart within no time.
  • To be fully engaged in hearing the transcendental narration described in the text of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam means to constantly associate with the Supreme Soul, Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

  • Mahārāja Parīkṣit was now a realized soul by this secret of liberation, through the grace of Śukadeva Gosvāmī.

  • The less intelligent persons are those who rebel against the authority of the Lord. Such persons are known as asuras. The asuras cannot recognize the Lord’s authority.
  • This is partially due to their poor fund of knowledge and partially due to their stubborn obstinacy, which results from various misdeeds in the past and present.
  • The Supreme Truth, the Absolute Personality of Godhead, is beyond the range of the thinking power of the greatest philosopher. He is unknowable by great learning or by the greatest brain. He is knowable only by one who has His mercy. Others may go on thinking about Him for years together, yet He is unknowable.
  • Women in general are unable to speculate like philosophers, but they are blessed by the Lord because they believe at once in the superiority and almightiness of the Lord, and thus they offer obeisances without reservation. The Lord is so kind that He does not show special favor only to one who is a great philosopher. He knows the sincerity of purpose
  • This simplicity of acceptance of the Lord’s authority is more effective than showy insincere religious fervor.
  • Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu confirmed that no one is as fortunate as the residents of Vrajabhūmi, and specifically the cowherd girls, who dedicated their everything for the satisfaction of the Lord.
  • His pastimes with Nanda and Yaśodā and His pastimes with the cowherd men and especially with the cowherd boys and the cows have caused Him to be known as Govinda.
  • Human prosperity depends more on these two items, namely brahminical culture and cow protection. Lord Kṛṣṇa is never satisfied where these are lacking.

SB 2.8.4 TRANSLATION:

Persons who hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam regularly and are always taking the matter very seriously will have the Personality of Godhead Śrī Kṛṣṇa manifested in their hearts within a short time.

Cheap devotees or materialistic devotees of the Lord are very much desirous to see the Lord personally without meeting the requisite qualifications. Such third-grade devotees should know well that material attachment and seeing the Lord face to face cannot go together. It is not such a mechanical process that the professional Bhāgavatam reciters can do the job on behalf of the third-grade materialistic pseudodevotee. The professional men are useless in this connection because they are neither self-realized nor interested in the liberation of the audience. They are simply interested in maintaining the material establishment of family attachment and earning some material benefits out of the profession. Mahārāja Parīkṣit had no more than seven days to live, but for others Mahārāja Parīkṣit personally recommends that one hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam regularly, nityam, always by one’s own effort and with serious devotion also. That will help one to see the Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa manifested in one’s heart within no time.

The pseudo devotee, however, is very anxious to see the Lord according to his whims, not making any serious effort to hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam regularly and without detachment from material benefit. That is not the way recommended by an authority like Mahārāja Parīkṣit, who heard and benefited by hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

Absolute focus on hearing SB everyday, by submission, offering service, and asking questions on every concept..

Develop ruchi

  1. Associating with devotees
  2. Relishing the association of devotees and learning the culture of KC
  3. Accepting initiation from bonafide spiritual master
  4. Get rid of all bad habits  – anartha nivritti
  5. Nishta – very very strong faith in Krsna
  6. Ruchi – strong taste for hearing, that they cannot do without hearing

SB 2.8.3

To be fully engaged in hearing the transcendental narration described in the text of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam means to constantly associate with the Supreme Soul, Śrī Kṛṣṇa. And to constantly associate with the Supreme Lord Kṛṣṇa means to be liberated from the qualities of matter. Lord Kṛṣṇa is like the sun, and material contamination is like darkness. As the presence of the sun dissipates darkness, constant engagement in the association of the Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa frees one from the contamination of the material qualities. Contamination by the material qualities is the cause of repeated birth and death, and liberation from material qualities is transcendence. Mahārāja Parīkṣit was now a realized soul by this secret of liberation, through the grace of Śukadeva Gosvāmī, for the latter had informed the King that the highest perfection of life is to be in remembrance of Nārāyaṇa at the end of life. Mahārāja Parīkṣit was destined to give up his body at the end of seven days, and thus he decided to continue remembering the Lord by His association with the topics of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and thus to quit his body in full consciousness of the presence of the Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Soul.

The hearing of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam performed by professional men is different from the transcendental hearing of Mahārāja Parīkṣit. Mahārāja Parīkṣit was a soul realized in the Absolute Truth, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Personality of Godhead. The fruitive materialist is not a realized soul; he wants to derive some material benefit from his so-called hearing of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Undoubtedly such an audience, hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from the professional men, can derive some material benefit as they desire, but that does not mean that such a pretense of hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam for a week is as good as the hearing of Mahārāja Parīkṣit.

It is the duty of the sane to hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from a self-realized soul and not be duped by professional men. One should continue such hearing till the end of one’s life so that one can actually have the transcendental association of the Lord and thus be liberated simply by hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

Mahārāja Parīkṣit had already given up all his connections with his kingdom and family, the most attractive features of materialism, but still he was conscious of his material body. He wanted to be free of such bondage also by the constant association of the Lord.

One has the constant association of the lord by regularly hearing SB.

Seeing is believing. YOu can see Krsna by hearing SB.

7 coverings of material world – Bhumi…

SB 1.8.18

Śrīmatī Kuntī said: O Kṛṣṇa, I offer my obeisances unto You because You are the original personality and are unaffected by the qualities of the material world. You are existing both within and without everything, yet You are invisible to all.

Śrīmatī Kuntīdevī was quite aware that Kṛṣṇa is the original Personality of Godhead, although He was playing the part of her nephew. Such an enlightened lady could not commit a mistake by offering obeisances unto her nephew. Therefore, she addressed Him as the original puruṣa beyond the material cosmos. Although all living entities are also transcendental, they are neither original nor infallible. The living entities are apt to fall down under the clutches of material nature, but the Lord is never like that. In the Vedas, therefore, He is described as the chief among all living entities (nityo nityānāṁ cetanaś cetanānām). Then again He is addressed as īśvara, or the controller. The living entities or the demigods like Candra and Sūrya are also to some extent īśvara, but none of them is the supreme īśvara, or the ultimate controller. He is the parameśvara, or the Supersoul. He is both within and without. Although He was present before Śrīmatī Kuntī as her nephew, He was also within her and everyone else. In the Bhagavad-gītā (15.15) the Lord says, “I am situated in everyone’s heart, and only due to Me one remembers, forgets and is cognizant, etc. Through all the Vedas I am to be known because I am the compiler of the Vedas, and I am the teacher of the Vedānta.” Queen Kuntī affirms that the Lord, although both within and without all living beings, is still invisible. The Lord is, so to speak, a puzzle for the common man. Queen Kuntī experienced personally that Lord Kṛṣṇa was present before her, yet He entered within the womb of Uttarā to save her embryo from the attack of Aśvatthāmā’s brahmāstra. Kuntī herself was puzzled about whether Śrī Kṛṣṇa is all-pervasive or localized. In fact, He is both, but He reserves the right of not being exposed to persons who are not surrendered souls. This checking curtain is called the māyā energy of the Supreme Lord, and it controls the limited vision of the rebellious soul. It is explained as follows.

SB 1.8.19

Being beyond the range of limited sense perception, You are the eternally irreproachable factor covered by the curtain of deluding energy. You are invisible to the foolish observer, exactly as an actor dressed as a player is not recognized.

In the Bhagavad-gītā Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa affirms that less intelligent persons mistake Him to be an ordinary man like us, and thus they deride Him. The same is confirmed herein by Queen Kuntī. The less intelligent persons are those who rebel against the authority of the Lord. Such persons are known as asuras. The asuras cannot recognize the Lord’s authority. When the Lord Himself appears amongst us, as Rāma, Nṛsiṁha, Varāha or in His original form as Kṛṣṇa, He performs many wonderful acts which are humanly impossible. As we shall find in the Tenth Canto of this great literature, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa exhibited His humanly impossible activities even from the days of His lying on the lap of His mother. He killed the Pūtanā witch, although she smeared her breast with poison just to kill the Lord. The Lord sucked her breast like a natural baby, and He sucked out her very life also. Similarly, He lifted the Govardhana Hill, just as a boy picks up a frog’s umbrella, and stood several days continuously just to give protection to the residents of Vṛndāvana. These are some of the superhuman activities of the Lord described in the authoritative Vedic literatures like the Purāṇas, Itihāsas (histories) and Upaniṣads. He has delivered wonderful instructions in the shape of the Bhagavad-gītā. He has shown marvelous capacities as a hero, as a householder, as a teacher and as a renouncer. He is accepted as the Supreme Personality of Godhead by such authoritative personalities as Vyāsa, Devala, Asita, Nārada, Madhva, Śaṅkara, Rāmānuja, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, Jīva Gosvāmī, Viśvanātha Cakravartī, Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī and all other authorities of the line. He Himself has declared as much in many places of the authentic literatures. And yet there is a class of men with demoniac mentality who are always reluctant to accept the Lord as the Supreme Absolute Truth. This is partially due to their poor fund of knowledge and partially due to their stubborn obstinacy, which results from various misdeeds in the past and present. Such persons could not recognize Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa even when He was present before them. Another difficulty is that those who depend more on their imperfect senses cannot realize Him as the Supreme Lord. Such persons are like the modern scientist. They want to know everything by their experimental knowledge. But it is not possible to know the Supreme Person by imperfect experimental knowledge. He is described herein as adhokṣaja, or beyond the range of experimental knowledge. All our senses are imperfect. We claim to observe everything and anything, but we must admit that we can observe things under certain material conditions only, which are also beyond our control. The Lord is beyond the observation of sense perception. Queen Kuntī accepts this deficiency of the conditioned soul, especially of the woman class, who are less intelligent. For less intelligent men there must be such things as temples, mosques or churches so that they may begin to recognize the authority of the Lord and hear about Him from authorities in such holy places. For less intelligent men, this beginning of spiritual life is essential, and only foolish men decry the establishment of such places of worship, which are required to raise the standard of spiritual attributes for the mass of people. For less intelligent persons, bowing down before the authority of the Lord, as generally done in the temples, mosques or churches, is as beneficial as it is for the advanced devotees to meditate upon Him by active service.

SB 1.8.19

You Yourself descend to propagate the transcendental science of devotional service unto the hearts of the advanced transcendentalists and mental speculators, who are purified by being able to discriminate between matter and spirit. How then can we women know You perfectly?

Even the greatest philosophical speculators cannot have access to the region of the Lord. It is said in the Upaniṣads that the Supreme Truth, the Absolute Personality of Godhead, is beyond the range of the thinking power of the greatest philosopher. He is unknowable by great learning or by the greatest brain. He is knowable only by one who has His mercy. Others may go on thinking about Him for years together, yet He is unknowable. This very fact is corroborated by the Queen, who is playing the part of an innocent woman. Women in general are unable to speculate like philosophers, but they are blessed by the Lord because they believe at once in the superiority and almightiness of the Lord, and thus they offer obeisances without reservation. The Lord is so kind that He does not show special favor only to one who is a great philosopher. He knows the sincerity of purpose. For this reason only, women generally assemble in great number in any sort of religious function. In every country and in every sect of religion it appears that the women are more interested than the men. This simplicity of acceptance of the Lord’s authority is more effective than showy insincere religious fervor.

SB 1.18.21

Let me therefore offer my respectful obeisances unto the Lord, who has become the son of Vasudeva, the pleasure of Devakī, the boy of Nanda and the other cowherd men of Vṛndāvana, and the enlivener of the cows and the senses.

The Lord, being thus unapproachable by any material assets, out of unbounded and causeless mercy descends to the earth as He is in order to show His special mercy upon His unalloyed devotees and to diminish the upsurges of the demoniac persons. Queen Kuntī specifically adores the incarnation or descent of Lord Kṛṣṇa above all other incarnations because in this particular incarnation He is more approachable. In the Rāma incarnation He remained a king’s son from His very childhood, but in the incarnation of Kṛṣṇa, although He was the son of a king, He at once left the shelter of His real father and mother (King Vasudeva and Queen Devakī) just after His appearance and went to the lap of Yaśodāmāyī to play the part of an ordinary cowherd boy in the blessed Vrajabhūmi, which is very sanctified because of His childhood pastimes. Therefore Lord Kṛṣṇa is more merciful than Lord Rāma. He was undoubtedly very kind to Kuntī’s brother Vasudeva and the family. Had He not become the son of Vasudeva and Devakī, Queen Kuntī could not claim Him to be her nephew and thus address Kṛṣṇa in parental affection. But Nanda and Yaśodā are more fortunate because they could relish the Lord’s childhood pastimes, which are more attractive than all other pastimes. There is no parallel to His childhood pastimes as exhibited at Vrajabhūmi, which are replicas of His eternal affairs in the original Kṛṣṇaloka, described as the cintāmaṇi-dhāma in the Brahma-saṁhitā. Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa descended Himself at Vrajabhūmi with all His transcendental entourage and paraphernalia. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu therefore confirmed that no one is as fortunate as the residents of Vrajabhūmi, and specifically the cowherd girls, who dedicated their everything for the satisfaction of the Lord. His pastimes with Nanda and Yaśodā and His pastimes with the cowherd men and especially with the cowherd boys and the cows have caused Him to be known as Govinda. Lord Kṛṣṇa as Govinda is more inclined to the brāhmaṇas and the cows, indicating thereby that human prosperity depends more on these two items, namely brahminical culture and cow protection. Lord Kṛṣṇa is never satisfied where these are lacking.

Prosperity, peace,  – cow protection and brahminical culture.

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HH HARIVILAS MAHARAJ’S MORNING BHAGAVATAM CLASS ON SB 2.8.1

  •  Devarṣi Nārada was directly instructed by Brahmājī, who was also directly instructed by the Supreme Lord; therefore the instructions imparted by Nārada to his various disciples are as good as those of the Supreme Lord.
  • It comes down from the Lord by disciplic succession, and this transcendental knowledge is distributed to the world by this descending process.
  • The disciplic succession which strictly follows the transcendental instruction is the bona fide chain of disciplic succession, and the test for such bona fide spiritual masters is that there should be no difference between the instruction of the Lord originally imparted to His devotee and that which is imparted by the authority in the line of disciplic succession.
  • Attentive and revarant hearing is very important.
  • To remain with family and children is no disqualification for spiritual advancement of life. That is not a disqualification, because after all, one has to take his birth from the father and mother. So all great ācāryas, great spiritual leaders, after all, they have come from father and mother.

  • So there are volumes of literature, magazines, newspapers, they are hearing. But when you say, “Please come here. We are reciting Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Please hear,” they will not come. When you speak of God, then they are not ready to hear.
  • “They do not know what is self-realization.” their vision is very poor. Why? They are thinking this body as self; therefore they are very poorly thoughtful.
  • They cannot understand that they are not this body.
  • So what is their business, those who are blind to the ātma-tattvam? Nidrayā, sleeping. They waste their life by sleeping. Or they waste their time in sex life.
  • Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira was quested by Yamarāja, “What is the most wonderful thing in this world? Can you say?” Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira immediately replied –

I will live for good.’ That is the most wonderful thing in this world.”
  • They are pramatta, they are mad after the struggle for existence, although they know nothing will exist; it has come just like a flash, and it will end like a flash. Then what is the actual platform of my life, my living condition, they do not inquire. They do not inquire. So gṛheṣu gṛha-medhinām.

SB 2.8.1 TRANSLATION:

King Parīkṣit inquired from Śukadeva Gosvāmī: How did Nārada Muni, whose hearers are as fortunate as those instructed by Lord Brahmā, explain the transcendental qualities of the Lord, who is without material qualities, and before whom did he speak?

Devarṣi Nārada was directly instructed by Brahmājī, who was also directly instructed by the Supreme Lord; therefore the instructions imparted by Nārada to his various disciples are as good as those of the Supreme Lord. That is the way of understanding Vedic knowledge. It comes down from the Lord by disciplic succession, and this transcendental knowledge is distributed to the world by this descending process. There is no chance, however, to receive the Vedic knowledge from mental speculators. Therefore, wherever Nārada Muni goes, he represents himself as authorized by the Lord, and his appearance is as good as that of the Supreme Lord. Similarly, the disciplic succession which strictly follows the transcendental instruction is the bona fide chain of disciplic succession, and the test for such bona fide spiritual masters is that there should be no difference between the instruction of the Lord originally imparted to His devotee and that which is imparted by the authority in the line of disciplic succession. How Nārada Muni distributed the transcendental knowledge of the Lord will be explained in later cantos.

It will appear also that the Lord existed prior to the material creation, and therefore His transcendental name, quality, etc., do not represent any material quality. Whenever, therefore, the Lord is described as aguṇa, or without any quality, it does not mean that He has no quality, but that He has no material quality, such as the modes of goodness, passion or ignorance, as the conditioned souls have. He is transcendental to all material conceptions, and thus He is described as aguṇa.

False gurus say not to read any old books, they very cleverly discard the vedic literature. They give their own speculative theories as explanations to the vedic verses.. To support their own sense gratification.  This is going on all over the place. Claiming to be a God and building followers. They say Believing in vedic literature is fantasy and believing science is the truth..

Lot of emphasis on how to choose a bonafide spiritual master has been given in this purport.

When Gandhi wrote commentary on BG he said the real purpose of BG is Non violence. That shows he did not understand BG. BG is all about justifiable violence.

Krsna gives Arjuna the eyes to see the universal form. He knows that in future there will be many who claim that they are God. To dispose them the test is they should show the universal form and they should give the eyes to the disciple to give the eyes to see the form.

In BG 10.8 Krsna says they  – He is the source of everything. But some Vaishnavas say that everything comes from Narayana. But that is not what Krsna says. It is also confirmed that Krsna is the source by Vyasdev and Sukhdev Goswami – who say “ Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya.. “

We can go through a gigantic list of people giving purport to BG.. which is mere speculation. It is a very rare thing to have a bonafide spiritual master. SP came and showed who was a bonafide spiritual master. SP presented everything as it is coming from disciplic succession. If we deviate and change even one word it is a mess.. It is a very serious mistake and will have a catastrophic consequence. Prabhupada would read his own books, and he said that I did not say that. Sometimes mistakes are made. How are the mistakes made, by not hearing attentively.

Prabhupada once said in Moscow that we should wake up at 4 o’clock and chant our rounds. The translator said that we should wake up at 4 o’ clock  and chant our rounds in the shower. The translator made a mistake by not attentively hearing. Attentive and revarant hearing is very important. In college, if a student does not pay attention properly; those types of people usually fail their test. Because the questions are noit always from the books, but they will be from the classes. Students with straight A’s always listen attentively, and read their books, hence they do well. It is not just studying the book and passing the test.

If you want to be a bonafide devotee the information in this purport is very important. For bonafide spiritual masters, there should be no difference between the instructions of the Lord originally imparted through the disciplic succession. This is very important information if you want to become a bonafide spiritual master.

The Defect of Modern Civilization:

SP Lecture: SB 2.1.2-5 Montreal Oct 23, 1968

https://vedabase.io/en/library/transcripts/681023sb-montreal/

So to remain with family and children is no disqualification for spiritual advancement of life. That is not a disqualification, because after all, one has to take his birth from the father and mother. So all great ācāryas, great spiritual leaders, after all, they have come from father and mother.

So without combination of father and mother, even there is no possibility of begetting a great soul. There are many instances of great souls like Śaṅkarācārya, Lord Jesus Christ, Rāmānujācārya.Even they had no very high hereditary title, still, they came out from the gṛhasthas, father and mother.

So gṛhastha, or the householder life, is not disqualification. We should not think it that only the brahmacārīs or the sannyāsīs, they can elevate to the spiritual platform, whereas those who are living with wife and children, they cannot. No. Caitanya Mahāprabhu has clearly stated in Caitanya-caritāmṛta that,

kibā vipra, kibā śūdra, nyāsī kene naya

yei kṛṣṇa-tattva-vettā sei ‘guru’ haya

[“Whether one is a brāhmaṇa, a sannyāsī or a śūdra—regardless of what he is—he can become a spiritual master if he knows the science of Kṛṣṇa.”]

Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, “It doesn’t matter whether a person is gṛhastha or a sannyāsī or a brāhmaṇa or not brāhmaṇa. It doesn’t matter. Simply if one is Kṛṣṇa conscious, if he is elevated in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, then he is just,” I mean to say, “eligible to become the spiritual master.” Yei kṛṣṇa-tattva-vettā sei guru haya [Cc. Madhya 8.128].

Tattva-vettā means one who knows about the science of Kṛṣṇa. That means fully Kṛṣṇa conscious. Sei guru haya. Sei means “he.” Guru means “spiritual master.” He doesn’t say that “One has to become a sannyāsī or a brahmacārī. Then he can…” No.

But here the word is used gṛhamedhī, not gṛhastha. Gṛhastha is not condemned. If one lives in regulative principle with wife and children, so that is not disqualification. But gṛhamedhī, gṛhamedhī means he has no higher ideas or higher understanding of spiritual life. Simply living with wife and children like cats and dogs, he is called gṛhamedhī. That is the difference between these two words, gṛhamedhī and gṛhastha.

So Śukadeva Gosvāmī said that gṛheṣu gṛha-medhinām. “One who does not know anything about this family life or sex life”—family life, they have taken it as sex life, that’s all—”so they have many things to hear.” Śrotavyādīni rājendra nṛṇāṁ santi sahasraśaḥ [SB 2.1.2].

[Those persons who are materially engrossed, being blind to the knowledge of ultimate truth, have many subject matters for hearing in human society, O Emperor.]

Actually, you see. People are reading so many newspapers. In big country, big cities, there are big, big volumes of newspaper, magazines. They are very much eager to learn or to hear about the current news. So hearing means śrotavyādi.

So there are volumes of volumes’ literature, magazines, newspapers, they are hearing. But when you say, “Please come here. We are reciting Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Please hear,” they will not come. They will not come. This minus. When you speak of God, then they are not ready to hear.

But if you speak of dog, that “Here is a dog’s medicine. You can maintain a dog like this, and a dog can become fatty like this,” oh, it is very scientific [indistinct]. You see? So they are called gṛhamedhīs. So they have got many subject matter to hear, but they are not agreeable to hear only one thing—about God.

Why? Now, apaśyatām ātma-tattvam [SB 2.1.2]: “They do not know what is self-realization.” Apaśyatām, cannot see; their vision is very poor. Why? They are thinking this body as self; therefore they are very poorly thoughtful. In the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, in another place, it is stated, yasyātma-buddhiḥ kuṇape tri-dhātuke [SB 10.84.13].

Every day we are experiencing that “I am not this body. The body is growing. I am still there.” There are so many instances. But we cannot understand that we are not this body. Apaśyatām ātma-tattvam. Ātmā means, the ātmā… There are various meanings of ātmā. Ātmā sometimes is meant indicating this body; ātmā is sometimes indicating this mind; ātmā is soul; and ātmā, Paramātmā, the Supreme Lord. Ātma-tattvam. Tattvam means truth, philosophy, or science.

So they do not know the science of ātmā, either take it body or mind. Generally, they take it as this body. So, so far body is concerned, there are so many departments: medical department and health department and… I do not remember. There are so many departments. All these departments of knowledge, they are practically on the basis of this body.

Then higher than this, ātmā, if you take it “mind,” there are psychological department, speculation department, philosophical department, so many departments, mind. Then intellectual department. But there is no department of the ātmā, of the soul. That is the defect of the modern civilization.

“They have no information of the real ātmā, of the real position, real background of all these activities. They do not see it.” Therefore they have got many subject matter to hear about this body, about this mind, about intellectual activities, and so many things.

But because they do not know that ātmā means the self—they do not know—therefore they have got many subject matter except this one, the soul, the subject matter of soul. Apaśyatām ātma-tattvaṁ gṛheṣu gṛha-medhinām [SB 2.1.2]. And why they are so much ignorant? “Because they have made home as the center of activities. They do not know; neither they are educated.

It is not their fault. The system of education is faulty. They do not give any education about the ātma-tattvam. They give education that about economic development, about technological understanding, about scientific understanding of the laws of nature, and so many other things, but there is no department of knowledge to understand what is soul.

Apaśyatām. Because they do not see, they do not know, therefore they are too much attached to this body, and this body means home. And home means wife. Wife means children. Children means money. Money means society. So many things. Yes.

First thing is that this material world is existing on sex attraction. And as soon as there is combination of sex, then the next attraction is for home, for land, for children, for society, for wealth, for bank balance, and so many things. Then extend it more, society to nationality, nationality to humanity, and go on increasing, but they are not ātma-tattvam. They are all gṛheṣu gṛha-medhinām, extended selfishness.

Selfishness… Just like a dog. He knows simply about his body. He won’t allow another dog to come in his boundary. That is very poor selfishness. You extend it little more, human society. There is family, wife, children. That is also extended selfishness. Then you further extend it: you have got society or nationality, consciousness of nationality. That is also still further extended selfishness.

Similarly, you extend the same propensity humanity-wise. Because we are… There is a class of men, they are very much anxious to serve the human society. But they are not anxious to serve the animal society. The animal society may be killed for the satisfaction of the human society.

Therefore, unless you come to the point of ātmā, whatever extended selfishness there is, it is selfishness. There is no, I mean to say, broadmindedness. And broadmindedness, when you come to the platform of ātmā. Īśāvāsyam idaṁ sarvam [Īśo mantra 1]

When you come to the point of God, then you see, “Oh, everything belongs to God. Everything belongs to God. Here is an animal. Here is an animal; he also as good as I am, because he is also soul.” So ātma-tattvam to be discussed, but they are not prepared. Therefore gṛheṣu gṛha-medhinām.

So what is their business, those who are blind to the ātma-tattvam? So that business is described in the next verse:

So their business is very nicely explained. What is that? Nidrayā, sleeping. Sleeping. Hriyate. They waste their life by sleeping. When? At night. Nidrayā hriyate naktam. Or they waste their time in sex life. At night there are two things.

One who has no advantage of sex life, he sleeps alone. And if he has got advantage of sex life, he enjoys. So at night they waste their life in this way. Nidrayā hriyate naktaṁ vyavāyena ca vā vayaḥ [SB 2.1.3]. In this way their life is being wasted.

I don’t wish to get birth again, or I want to stop birth. Janma-mṛtyu. I want to stop death. I want to stop disease. And I want to stop old age. These are the activities, material activities, struggling against. And I am thinking that “These soldiers, or this my body or my wife, my children, will protect me,” dehāpatya-kalatrādiṣv ātma-sainyeṣv asatsv api, although I am experiencing every day that they are asat, they will not exist.

What is the most wonderful thing in this world ?

Just like Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira was quested by Yamarāja, “What is the most wonderful thing in this world? Can you say?” Mahārāja Yudhiṣṭhira immediately replied. What is that? Ahany ahani lokānī gacchantīha yamālayam [Mahābhārata, Vana-parva 313.116]:

[Every day, hundreds and millions of living entities go to the kingdom of death. Still, those who are remaining aspire for a permanent situation. What could be more astonishing than this?]

“Every moment, every second, every day, every night, there are so many hundreds and thousands of living entities, they are going to the temple of death, or dying.” Ahany ahani lokānī gacchantīha yamālayaṁ śeṣāḥ sthāvaram icchanti. “But one who is living, he is thinking that ‘I will not die. I will live for good.’ That is the most wonderful thing in this world.”

Brahma Jignasa –

Nobody is taking experience that “I will have to meet death. And what is next after death? What I was before my birth? Why I am here? Why I am struggling so hard? I want to be happy. I want to be peaceful. Why there is no peace? Why there is no happiness? Why these things? Why I am put into this…?”

These are called ātma-tattvam. These are called brahma-jijñāsā. If a man is not enlightened to this point of inquiring of this “What? What I am? Wherefore I am come? What is this world? What is this body? Why I am getting old? Why I am getting diseased?” So many “whys” there are. This is called brahma-jijñāsā.

But they are pramatta, they are mad after the struggle for existence, although they know nothing will exist; it has come just like a flash, and it will end like a flash. Then what is the actual platform of my life, my living condition, they do not inquire. They do not inquire. So gṛheṣu gṛha-medhinām.

No one can speak like this..only pure devotee like Srila Prabhupada can talk like this. Lemming Syndrome. HIgh school students, most of them are like zombies.. Nonsense, mundane knowledge…. Is getting into them everyday..

What can we do  – first we have to cross the bridge and we have to convinced that this is the most important thing. Have to understand atma tattva. How do we get Atma tattva? We get atma tattva by coming to the class everyday.

BG 13.8-12

the perception of the evil of birth, death, old age and disease;

Why are we forced? It is not a normal thing it is an evil. Atheists say that it is part of life. There is nothing after death. They push you go to after sense gratification.

They are forced to repeat birth, death, old age and disease.

The way to free yourself is to hear everyday..

People are committing suicide – Body, panic attacks, paranoid, drugs, It is a vicious cycle. Unless we understand that it is evil.. We will not try to come out of it/. Atheists says live to the fullest as there is only one life.

“I did not say about Education, SP says and Bhakti Vinod Thakur said it.. I did not invent anything new.. “ Everyday there is something new and we are not making up. Prabhupada has written so much for deeper understanding of realization of this philosophy of krishna consciousness

did you ever notice the word evil in this verse?

SB 2.7.53 Notes – 11/09/21

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HH HARIVILAS MAHARAJ’S MORNING BHAGAVATAM CLASS ON SB 2.7.53:

  • Those who are not completely free from the clutches of the Lord’s external energy should devoutly hear regularly about the activities of the Lord in relation with the external energy. They should not foolishly jump up to the activities of the Lord’s internal energy, falsely attracted by such activities as His rāsa-līlā.
  • Factually the Lord’s activities in relation with the external energy and the internal energy are equally good.
  • The cheap reciters of the Bhāgavatam are very much enthusiastic about the activities of the Lord’s internal potency, and the pseudodevotees, absorbed in material sense enjoyment, falsely jump to the stage of liberated souls and thus fall down deeply into the clutches of external energy.
  • A pure devotee of the Lord, therefore, must begin reading or hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from the very beginning, and not from the Tenth Canto
  • We have several times been requested by some so-called devotees to take up the Tenth Canto immediately, but we have refrained from such an action because we wish to present Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam as the science of Godhead and not as a sensuous understanding for the conditioned souls.
  •  By reading and hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam as a scientific presentation, the conditioned souls will gradually be promoted to the higher status of transcendental knowledge after being freed from the illusory energy based on sense enjoyment.
  • All the sages and devotees of the Lord have recommended that the subject matter of art, science, philosophy, physics, chemistry, psychology and all other branches of knowledge should be wholly and solely applied in the service of the Lord. Art, literature, poetry, painting, etc., may be used in glorifying the Lord.
  • Similarly, science and philosophy also should be applied in the service of the Lord.
  • All “knowledge” not engaged in the service of the Lord is but nescience.
  • Real utilization of advanced knowledge is to establish the glories of the Lord, and that is the real import.
  • Scientific knowledge engaged in the service of the Lord, and all similar activities, are all factually hari-kīrtana, or glorification of the Lord.
  • Those who are entrapped by viṣṇu-māyā utilize advancement of knowledge for sense enjoyment.
  • Unless one is situated in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, his material consciousness will oblige him to transfer from one body to another because he has material desires since time immemorial.
  • The living entity, if he submits to the hearing from authoritative sources, will lose his long-cherished desire to dominate material nature, and gradually and proportionately, as he reduces his long desire to dominate, he comes to enjoy spiritual happiness.
  • In a Vedic mantra it is said that as he becomes learned in association with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he proportionately relishes his eternal blissful life.

SB 2.7.53 TRANSLATION:

The Lord’s activities in association with His different energies should be described, appreciated and heard in accordance with the teachings of the Supreme Lord. If this is done regularly with devotion and respect, one is sure to get out of the illusory energy of the Lord.

Purport

The science of learning a subject matter seriously is different from the sentiments of fanatics. Fanatics or fools may consider the Lord’s activities in relation with the external energy to be useless for them, and they may falsely claim to be higher participants in the internal energy of the Lord, but factually the Lord’s activities in relation with the external energy and the internal energy are equally good. On the other hand, those who are not completely free from the clutches of the Lord’s external energy should devoutly hear regularly about the activities of the Lord in relation with the external energy. They should not foolishly jump up to the activities of the Lord’s internal energy, falsely attracted by such activities as His rāsa-līlā. The cheap reciters of the Bhāgavatam are very much enthusiastic about the activities of the Lord’s internal potency, and the pseudodevotees, absorbed in material sense enjoyment, falsely jump to the stage of liberated souls and thus fall down deeply into the clutches of external energy.

Some of them think that to hear about the pastimes of the Lord means to hear about His activities with the gopīs or about His pastimes like lifting the Govardhana Hill, and they have nothing to do with the Lord’s plenary expansions as the puruṣāvatāras and Their pastimes of the creation, maintenance or annihilation of the material worlds. But a pure devotee knows that there is no difference between the pastimes of the Lord, either in rāsa-līlā or in creation, maintenance or destruction of the material world. Rather, the descriptions of such activities of the Lord as the puruṣāvatāras are specifically meant for persons who are in the clutches of the external energy. Topics like the rāsa-līlā are meant for the liberated souls and not for the conditioned souls. The conditioned souls, therefore, must hear with appreciation and devotion the Lord’s pastimes in relationship with the external energy, and such acts are as good as the hearing of rāsa-līlā in the liberated stage. A conditioned soul should not imitate the activities of liberated souls. Lord Śrī Caitanya never indulged in hearing the rāsa-līlā with ordinary men.

In the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the science of God, the first nine cantos prepare the ground for hearing the Tenth Canto. This will be further explained in the last chapter of this canto. In the Third Canto it will be more explicit. A pure devotee of the Lord, therefore, must begin reading or hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam from the very beginning, and not from the Tenth Canto. We have several times been requested by some so-called devotees to take up the Tenth Canto immediately, but we have refrained from such an action because we wish to present Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam as the science of Godhead and not as a sensuous understanding for the conditioned souls. This is forbidden by such authorities as Śrī Brahmājī. By reading and hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam as a scientific presentation, the conditioned souls will gradually be promoted to the higher status of transcendental knowledge after being freed from the illusory energy based on sense enjoyment.

Thus end the Bhaktivedanta purports of the Second Canto, Seventh Chapter, of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, entitled “Scheduled Incarnations with Specific Functions.”

Here is a non-equivocal explanation of why it is absolutely important to hear SB page by page and verse by verse and gradually come to the 9th canto and before hearing about the transcendental pastimes of the lord with gopis in 10th canto.

SP says this KC movement is all about producing men of pure character.

They are not at all by modes of material nature.. Especially passion and ignorance. The whole culture now is based on passion and ignorance.

Diwali celebration nowadays  – food, new clothes, drinking alcohol.. No remembering of Lord Rama..

Science of Godhead –

The sages of naimisharanya led by Suta Goswami and Saunaka.. They spent 1000 years trying to figure out what is the best way to help the people in Kaliyuga. Their final solution was to reading SB verse by verse page by page.. This is the solution for all the problems in Kali Yuga.

SB 1.5.22 (all subject matters should be used in the service of the lord)

Learned circles have positively concluded that the infallible purpose of the advancement of knowledge, namely austerities, study of the Vedas, sacrifice, chanting of hymns and charity, culminates in the transcendental descriptions of the Lord, who is defined in choice poetry.

This perfection of life culminates in the realization of the Supreme Being, Viṣṇu. The śruti therefore directs that those who are actually advanced in learning should aspire for the service of Lord Viṣṇu. Unfortunately persons who are enamored by the external beauty of viṣṇu-māyā do not understand that culmination of perfection or self-realization depends on Viṣṇu. Viṣṇu-māyā means sense enjoyment, which is transient and miserable. Those who are entrapped by viṣṇu-māyā utilize advancement of knowledge for sense enjoyment. Śrī Nārada Muni has explained that all paraphernalia of the cosmic universe is but an emanation from the Lord out of His different energies because the Lord has set in motion, by His inconceivable energy, the actions and reactions of the created manifestation. They have come to be out of His energy, they rest on His energy, and after annihilation they merge into Him. Nothing is, therefore, different from Him, but at the same time the Lord is always different from them.

When advancement of knowledge is applied in the service of the Lord, the whole process becomes absolute. The Personality of Godhead and His transcendental name, fame, glory, etc., are all nondifferent from Him. Therefore, all the sages and devotees of the Lord have recommended that the subject matter of art, science, philosophy, physics, chemistry, psychology and all other branches of knowledge should be wholly and solely applied in the service of the Lord. Art, literature, poetry, painting, etc., may be used in glorifying the Lord. The fiction writers, poets and celebrated litterateurs are generally engaged in writing of sensuous subjects, but if they turn towards the service of the Lord they can describe the transcendental pastimes of the Lord. Vālmīki was a great poet, and similarly Vyāsadeva is a great writer, and both of them have absolutely engaged themselves in delineating the transcendental activities of the Lord and by doing so have become immortal. Similarly, science and philosophy also should be applied in the service of the Lord. There is no use presenting dry speculative theories for sense gratification. Philosophy and science should be engaged to establish the glory of the Lord. Advanced people are eager to understand the Absolute Truth through the medium of science, and therefore a great scientist should endeavor to prove the existence of the Lord on a scientific basis. Similarly, philosophical speculations should be utilized to establish the Supreme Truth as sentient and all-powerful. Similarly, all other branches of knowledge should always be engaged in the service of the Lord. In the Bhagavad-gītā also the same is affirmed. All “knowledge” not engaged in the service of the Lord is but nescience. Real utilization of advanced knowledge is to establish the glories of the Lord, and that is the real import. Scientific knowledge engaged in the service of the Lord, and all similar activities, are all factually hari-kīrtana, or glorification of the Lord.

KRsna is the unified field theory.. The science of Krsna is the real science.

Science definition – the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.

Right there they are wrong, they are only accounting for one fourth of the creation. Science is always changing.. In real definition – science should be true in all circumstances and all times.

SB is poetry…

If we begin to understand where we are.. We were with Krsna originally and we voluntarily walked away.. Wonder how that happened? Any inattention in the execution of dev service can cause a fall down.

Computer, technology.

BG 13.21 (God is the cause of our suffering)

Nature is said to be the cause of all material causes and effects, whereas the living entity is the cause of the various sufferings and enjoyments in this world.

The different manifestations of body and senses among the living entities are due to material nature. There are 8,400,000 different species of life, and these varieties are creations of the material nature. They arise from the different sensual pleasures of the living entity, who thus desires to live in this body or that. When he is put into different bodies, he enjoys different kinds of happiness and distress. His material happiness and distress are due to his body, and not to himself as he is. In his original state there is no doubt of enjoyment; therefore that is his real state. Because of the desire to lord it over material nature, he is in the material world. In the spiritual world there is no such thing. The spiritual world is pure, but in the material world everyone is struggling hard to acquire different kinds of pleasures for the body. It might be more clear to state that this body is the effect of the senses. The senses are instruments for gratifying desire. Now, the sum total – body and instrument senses – is offered by material nature, and as will be clear in the next verse, the living entity is blessed or damned with circumstances according to his past desire and activity. According to one’s desires and activities, material nature places one in various residential quarters. The being himself is the cause of his attaining such residential quarters and his attendant enjoyment or suffering. Once placed in some particular kind of body, he comes under the control of nature because the body, being matter, acts according to the laws of nature. At that time, the living entity has no power to change that law. Suppose an entity is put into the body of a dog. As soon as he is put into the body of a dog, he must act like a dog. He cannot act otherwise. And if the living entity is put into the body of a hog, then he is forced to eat stool and act like a hog. Similarly, if the living entity is put into the body of a demigod, he must act according to his body. This is the law of nature. But in all circumstances, the Supersoul is with the individual soul. That is explained in the Vedas (Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad 3.1.1) as follows: dvā suparṇā sayujā sakhāyaḥ. The Supreme Lord is so kind upon the living entity that He always accompanies the individual soul and in all circumstances is present as the Supersoul, or Paramātmā.

Why there are so many species – there are unlimited ways that people want sense gratification. They want to have it on the land in the water up in the air. And now Bezos wants to open a spa in the satellite.. In space. There are infinite ways of having sense gratification. People say Fish is healthy to eat.. But fish is the water filter.. Means you are eating the filter.. People are all confused..

There is a group of devotees in LA who were grouping together and reading the tenth canto. SP asked them to stop and not continue.. Gopibhava group.. Rasa panchadhyaya groups..

Right from birth a child must be trained in KC so they are armed to protect themselves. They will be shot down immediately if they are not trained. The whole culture is about producing the sense gratifiers.

Factories, China and India have environmental catastrophes.. They are working hard producing junk products..

BG 13.22 (Imp verse to understand KC)

The living entity in material nature thus follows the ways of life, enjoying the three modes of nature. This is due to his association with that material nature. Thus he meets with good and evil among various species.

SP in one of his last purports to SB before his leaving the body quotes this verse – BG 13.22.  Devotees should always associate with persons who are in transcendental goodness.

This verse is very important for an understanding of how the living entities transmigrate from one body to another. It is explained in the Second Chapter that the living entity is transmigrating from one body to another just as one changes dress. This change of dress is due to his attachment to material existence. As long as he is captivated by this false manifestation, he has to continue transmigrating from one body to another. Due to his desire to lord it over material nature, he is put into such undesirable circumstances. Under the influence of material desire, the entity is born sometimes as a demigod, sometimes as a man, sometimes as a beast, as a bird, as a worm, as an aquatic, as a saintly man, as a bug. This is going on. And in all cases the living entity thinks himself to be the master of his circumstances, yet he is under the influence of material nature.

Material existence – read books, internet, cell phone.. It is everywhere in all countries..

How he is put into such different bodies is explained here. It is due to association with the different modes of nature. One has to rise, therefore, above the three material modes and become situated in the transcendental position. That is called Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Unless one is situated in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, his material consciousness will oblige him to transfer from one body to another because he has material desires since time immemorial. But he has to change that conception. That change can be effected only by hearing from authoritative sources. The best example is here: Arjuna is hearing the science of God from Kṛṣṇa. HEARING – The living entity, if he submits to this hearing process, will lose his long-cherished desire to dominate material nature, and gradually and proportionately, as he reduces his long desire to dominate, he comes to enjoy spiritual happiness. In a Vedic mantra it is said that as he becomes learned in association with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he proportionately relishes his eternal blissful life.

Many kids say – it is boring to go to temple, play on computer, tik tok, social media, Because they are affected by maya very seriously.. Maya has attracted them with nonsense. Because their desires have become perverted..

To become part of the group they smoke.. Eventually they become big smokers..

SB 2.7.51 & 52 Notes – 11/08/21

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HH HARIVILAS MAHARAJ’S MORNING BHAGAVATAM CLASS ON SB 2.7.51 & 52:

  • The Bhāgavatam in a nutshell, spoken by the Personality of Godhead in about half a dozen verses, is the science of God, and it is the potent representation of the Personality of Godhead.
  • Brahmājī received this science of Godhead from the Lord directly, and he handed over the same to Nārada, who in his turn ordered Śrīla Vyāsadeva to expand it.
  • So the transcendental knowledge of the Supreme Lord is not mental speculation by the mundane wranglers, but is uncontaminated, eternal, perfect knowledge beyond the jurisdiction of material modes.
  • The Bhāgavata Purāṇa is the direct incarnation of the Lord in the form of transcendental sound, and one should receive this transcendental knowledge from the bona fide representative of the Lord  in the chain of disciplic succession from the Lord to Brahmājī, from Brahmājī to Nārada, from Nārada to Vyāsa, from Vyāsadeva to Śukadeva Gosvāmī, from Śukadeva Gosvāmī to Sūta Gosvāmī.
  • By placing King Parīkṣit in an awkward position, the incarnation of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam was created by the will of the Lord.
  • Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu declared that Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the spotless sound representation of all Vedic knowledge and history.
  • Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam should be worshiped as respectfully as we worship the Lord. Thereby we can derive the ultimate blessings of the Lord through its careful and patient study.
  • We can have all the transcendental light of the Supreme Brahman, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, from the recitation of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, provided it is received through the medium of the transparent spiritual master.
  • Person Bhāgavatam is the self-realized bona fide spiritual master, and through him only can one understand the lessons of Bhāgavatam in order to receive the desired result.
  • One can derive from the study of the Bhāgavatam all benefits that are possible to be derived from the personal presence of the Lord. It carries with it all the transcendental blessings of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa that we can expect from His personal contact.
  • Unless one hears the science of Godhead from the bona fide representative of the disciplic succession, for one to understand the theme of the science of Godhead will be a difficult job.
  • It should never be heard from the professional Bhāgavatam reciters who earn their livelihood by gratifying the senses of the audience.
  • If a devotee is not intelligent enough to make progress on the path of self-realization but is sincere and devoted to the activities of devotional service, the Lord gives him a chance to make progress and ultimately attain to Him.
  • But even if a devotee does not take advantage of their literatures or of his spiritual master, if he is sincere in his devotional service he is helped by Kṛṣṇa Himself within his heart. So the sincere devotee engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness cannot be without knowledge. The only qualification is that one carry out devotional service in full Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
  • No conditioned soul actually knows what is to be done and what is not to be done, but a person who acts in Kṛṣṇa consciousness is free to act because everything is prompted by Kṛṣṇa from within and confirmed by the spiritual master.
  • Krsna helps us from within as Caitya Guru and He expands Himself externally as Siksa Guru (as instructor) and diksa Guru (initiator). So the principle is that whatever you are instructed by the Caitya Guru internally may be confirmed by the instructor or initiator externally. Then your progress will be complete.
  • Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the philosophy of devotional service and the scientific presentation of man’s relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
  • The ultimate goal of life is not to pass a life of irresponsibility like the animals and indulge in a polished way in the four animal principles, namely eating, sleeping, fearing and mating. For such a blind human society in the darkness of ignorance,
  • Everyone is hankering after happiness in life, but in this age the members of human society, blind as they are, do not have the proper vision that the Personality of Godhead is the reservoir of all happiness because He is the ultimate source of everything (janmādy asya yataḥ).
  • Happiness in complete perfection without hindrance can be achieved only by our devotional relationship with Him. And it is only by His association that we can get free of distressful material existence.

SB 2.7.51 – 11/08/21

O Nārada, this science of God, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, was spoken to me in summary by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and it was spoken as the accumulation of His diverse potencies. Please expand this science yourself.

ŚB 2.7.52 – 11/08/21
Please describe the science of Godhead with determination and in a manner by which it will be quite possible for the human being to develop transcendental devotional service unto the Personality of Godhead Hari, the Supersoul of every living being and the summum bonum source of all energies.

The Bhāgavatam in a nutshell, spoken by the Personality of Godhead in about half a dozen verses, which will appear ahead, is the science of God, and it is the potent representation of the Personality of Godhead. He, being absolute, is non different from the science of God, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Brahmājī received this science of Godhead from the Lord directly, and he handed over the same to Nārada, who in his turn ordered Śrīla Vyāsadeva to expand it. So the transcendental knowledge of the Supreme Lord is not mental speculation by the mundane wranglers, but is uncontaminated, eternal, perfect knowledge beyond the jurisdiction of material modes.

BOOK INCARNATION OF THE LORD –

The Bhāgavata Purāṇa is therefore the direct incarnation of the Lord in the form of transcendental sound, and one should receive this transcendental knowledge from the bona fide representative of the Lord in the chain of disciplic succession from the Lord to Brahmājī, from Brahmājī to Nārada, from Nārada to Vyāsa, from Vyāsadeva to Śukadeva Gosvāmī, from Śukadeva Gosvāmī to Sūta Gosvāmī.

SB 1.3.28 (Science of God, Krsna is the original personality of Godhead)

All of the above-mentioned incarnations are either plenary portions or portions of the plenary portions of the Lord, but Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa is the original Personality of Godhead. All of them appear on planets whenever there is a disturbance created by the atheists. The Lord incarnates to protect the theists.

This is a big science. This science is not in Islam, Judaism,… Only to little extent it is said in the Christianity.. As there is a messenger of the God a person..

The information about the lord is only there in SB and in very great detail.

SB 1.3.40 (SB is Literary Incarnation of God)

This Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the literary incarnation of God, and it is compiled by Śrīla Vyāsadeva, the incarnation of God. It is meant for the ultimate good of all people, and it is all-successful, all-blissful and all-perfect.

Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu declared that Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the spotless sound representation of all Vedic knowledge and history. There are selected histories of great devotees who are in direct contact with the Personality of Godhead. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the literary incarnation of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa and is therefore nondifferent from Him. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam should be worshiped as respectfully as we worship the Lord.

In all Muslim countries, the Hindus should not have deities, instead they should worship Srimad Bhagavatam. They should read Quran and also Srimad Bhagavatam. Sanatana Goswami, Rupa Goswami, Haridas Thakur were muslims. Haridas Thakur was born Muslim and rest of them were not. They knew parsi. They were able to convince the muslim leaders at that time to help  build the temple in Vrindavan.. Therefore if you are going to deal with people you have to know what they believe. Muslims have been in India 800 years, You have to understand what they believe.

Thereby we can derive the ultimate blessings of the Lord through its careful and patient study. As God is all light, all bliss and all perfection, so also is Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. We can have all the transcendental light of the Supreme Brahman, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, from the recitation of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, provided it is received through the medium of the transparent spiritual master. Lord Caitanya’s private secretary Śrīla Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī advised all intending visitors who came to see the Lord at Purī to make a study of the Bhāgavatam from the person Bhāgavatam. Person Bhāgavatam is the self-realized bona fide spiritual master, and through him only can one understand the lessons of Bhāgavatam in order to receive the desired result. One can derive from the study of the Bhāgavatam all benefits that are possible to be derived from the personal presence of the Lord. It carries with it all the transcendental blessings of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa that we can expect from His personal contact.

SB 1.18.31 (BG is the sound representative, SB is the literary incarnation)

By placing Arjuna and the Pāṇḍavas in frustration due to the intrigue of their cousin-brothers, the prelude of the Battle of Kurukṣetra was created by the Lord. This was to incarnate the sound representative of the Lord, Bhagavad-gītā. So by placing King Parīkṣit in an awkward position, the incarnation of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam was created by the will of the Lord. Being distressed by hunger and thirst was only a show, because the King endured much, even in the womb of his mother. He was never disturbed by the glaring heat of the brahmāstra released by Aśvatthāmā. The King’s distressed condition was certainly unprecedented. The devotees like Mahārāja Parīkṣit are powerful enough to forbear such distresses, by the will of the Lord, and they are never disturbed. The situation, in this case, was therefore all planned by the Lord.

Scriptures are not books they are incarnations of Krsna. Muslims also consider quran as not only sacred, they will burn somebody if they defile Quran..

The ripened fruit of the Vedic tree drops from one hand to another without being broken by falling suddenly from a high branch down to the earth. Therefore unless one hears the science of Godhead from the bona fide representative of the disciplic succession, as above mentioned, for one to understand the theme of the science of Godhead will be a difficult job.

Hearing is emphasized here more than reading. By reading you can come up with many false conclusions by reading SB. But If you hear it from genuine devotees and you ask questions, you can clear any doubts in your mind and end up with a correct understanding of SB and BG.

SP was in Nellore and the hosts wanted to hear about Radha & Krishna they said –  We want you to tell us tonight about Radha and Krsna. You are Maha Bhagavat.. Describe Their past times. SP said He does not know. He said so because they wanted to titillate their senses by hearing those past times. They were not qualified. They wanted sense gratification. One has to be trained in the science of Krsna by reading all the first 9 cantos of SB before one hears or reads the 10th canto of SB which describe the transcendental loving affairs of the Lord. Atmavan manyate jagat.. One will project one’s own mundane concept of sex, become agitated and contaminated by it. One will not get purified by it.

One will purify their senses by hearing SB from pure devotee..

It should never be heard from the professional Bhāgavatam reciters who earn their livelihood by gratifying the senses of the audience.

So we see how Krsna Himself refers to SB as the science of Godhead. We need to understand the real meaning of science.

True meaning of science – Science is the truth that is true in all places, all times and in all circumstances.

Philosophy of devotional service is Pure devotion performed without any mixed motives.

If you mix Clorox with Vinegar and you will die right away! Chlorine gas is produced and people will die. People die every year because of this.

Knowledge is strength and ignorance is misery.

ŚB 2.7.52 (Narada was instructed by his spiritual master to take the matter very seriously in a missionary spirit)

Please describe the science of Godhead with determination and in a manner by which it will be quite possible for the human being to develop transcendental devotional service unto the Personality of Godhead Hari, the Supersoul of every living being and the summum bonum source of all energies.

This verse is telling us that if you engage in devotional service without any material desire simply to please Krsna.. You should have understood BG, SB, the real purport of Vedas. SP explain in BG 10. 10, 11

BG 10.10 (Lord gives a change to one who is not able to make progress if they are sincere and devoted to the activities of Devotional service)

A person may have a bona fide spiritual master and may be attached to a spiritual organization, but if he is still not intelligent enough to make progress, then Kṛṣṇa from within gives him instructions so that he may ultimately come to Him without difficulty. The qualification is that a person always engage himself in Kṛṣṇa consciousness and with love and devotion render all kinds of services. He should perform some sort of work for Kṛṣṇa, and that work should be with love. If a devotee is not intelligent enough to make progress on the path of self-realization but is sincere and devoted to the activities of devotional service, the Lord gives him a chance to make progress and ultimately attain to Him.

BG 10.11 (Dev service is the qualification to receive knowledge)

But even if a devotee does not take advantage of their literatures or of his spiritual master, if he is sincere in his devotional service he is helped by Kṛṣṇa Himself within his heart. So the sincere devotee engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness cannot be without knowledge. The only qualification is that one carry out devotional service in full Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

If you come to the level of  pure devotional service with love and affection for Krsna.. Whether you are knowledgeable or not knowledgeable whether you are taking advantage of vedic knowledge or not doing it. As long as you are doing pure devotional service, Krishna will accept you and Krishna will instruct you from within (Paramatama), according to BG 18.58 verse it should be validated by the bonafide spiritual master without.

BG 18.58 (Prompted from within by Krsna and confirmed by the spiritual master)

No conditioned soul actually knows what is to be done and what is not to be done, but a person who acts in Kṛṣṇa consciousness is free to act because everything is prompted by Kṛṣṇa from within and confirmed by the spiritual master.

SB 1.7.5 (From within and without)

Within the heart of every living being the Lord Himself as the Supersoul (Paramātmā) becomes the spiritual master, and from without He becomes the spiritual master in the shape of scriptures, saints and the initiator spiritual master.

Letter to Sivananda  May 21, 1969 (Siksha and Diksha gurus without)

He helps us from within as Caitya Guru and He expands Himself externally as Siksa Guru (as instructor) and diksa Guru (initiator). So the principle is that whatever you are instructed by the Caitya Guru internally may be confirmed by the instructor or initiator externally. Then your progress will be complete. Hope this will find you in good health. Thanking you once more.

DEVIL SPOKE VERSES TO MOHAMMED in QURAN, This raises a doubt in the validity of the quoran, Whatever is there in Quran samething is in the Tora,, Tora also depicts God as being mean.. Tora says God makes mistakes also.. Are these words spoken by God ? Did it ever say Krsna make a mistake. If he makes a mistake how can He be a God.

Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the philosophy of devotional service and the scientific presentation of man’s relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Prior to the Age of Kali there was no need for such a book of knowledge to know the Lord and His energies, but with the beginning of the Age of Kali human society gradually became influenced by four sinful principles, namely illegitimate connection with women, intoxication, gambling and unnecessary killing of animals. Because of these basic sinful acts, man gradually became forgetful of his eternal relation with God. Therefore man became blind, so to speak, to his ultimate goal of life. The ultimate goal of life is not to pass a life of irresponsibility like the animals and indulge in a polished way in the four animal principles, namely eating, sleeping, fearing and mating. For such a blind human society in the darkness of ignorance, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the torchlight to see things in proper perspective. Therefore it was necessary to describe the science of God from the very beginning, or from the very birth of the phenomenal world.

As we have already explained, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is so scientifically presented that any sincere student of this great science will be able to understand the science of God simply by reading it with attention or simply by regularly hearing it from the bona fide speaker. Everyone is hankering after happiness in life, but in this age the members of human society, blind as they are, do not have the proper vision that the Personality of Godhead is the reservoir of all happiness because He is the ultimate source of everything (janmādy asya yataḥ). Happiness in complete perfection without hindrance can be achieved only by our devotional relationship with Him. And it is only by His association that we can get free of distressful material existence. Even those who are after the enjoyment of this material world can also take shelter of the great science of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and they will be successful at the end. Nārada is therefore requested or ordered by his spiritual master to present this science with determination and in good plan. Nārada was never advised to preach the principles of Bhāgavatam to earn a livelihood; he was ordered by his spiritual master to take the matter very seriously in a missionary spirit.

SB was spoken to Brahma, Brahma to Narada, Narada to Vyasdeva, Vyasdeva to Sukhdev Goswami.. Sukh dev Goswami heard the nutshell verses but he expanded it..

Worshipping of SB is the deity worship.. It is an alternate way of doing deity worship. You have to ritually offer worship to SB and above all hear it.  You have to get along with Muslims,, goswamis were speaking, Urdu, Hindi, Parsi, Sanskrit. They were highly educated and they were able to get along with all kinds of people. Everybody liked them, they are extremely renounced.. If you drive around big cars, big houses and gold chains.. How did he get things, he has to be a sadhu and not a vishayi..

SB 2.7.49 Notes – 11/01/21

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HH HARIVILAS MAHARAJ’S MORNING BHAGAVATAM CLASS ON SB 2.7.49 TODAY (11/01/21):

  • The living entity is unborn and eternal.
  • BG 2.30 – The living entity is not exhausted even though the material elementary body is vanquished.
  • As long as the living entity is in material existence, actions performed by him are rewarded in the next life, or even in the present life.
  • In his spiritual life also actions are rewarded by the Lord by the five kinds of liberation.
  • Even the impersonalist cannot achieve the desired merging into the existence of the Supreme without being favored by the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
  • BG 4.11 – The Lord awards similar results, as one desires, in one’s present life. The living entities are given freedom to make their choice, and the Lord awards them accordingly.
  • The impersonalist, instead of speculating or meditating, can directly execute the routine devotional service of the Lord and thus easily obtain the desired goal.
  • BG 15.7 – The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal fragmental parts. Due to conditioned life, they are struggling very hard with the six senses, which include the mind.
  • Damodarastakam verse 4 – O Lord, although You are able to give all kinds of benedictions, I do not pray to You for liberation, nor eternal life in Vaikuntha, nor any other boon. My only prayer is that Your childhood pastimes may constantly appear in my mind. O Lord, I don’t even want to know your features of Paramatma. I simply wish that Your childhood pastimes may ever be enacted in my heart.
  • Non violence – BG 13.8-12 – Nonviolence is generally taken to mean not killing or destroying the body, but actually nonviolence means not to put others into distress. People in general are trapped by ignorance in the material concept of life, and they perpetually suffer material pains. So unless one elevates people to spiritual knowledge, one is practicing violence. One should try his best to distribute real knowledge to the people, so that they may become enlightened and leave this material entanglement. That is nonviolence.
  • Creatio ex nihilo: the creation of matter. the position of christianity, islam and Judaism has been discussed.
  • Science of Krsna, Concept of Non Violence, What is killing if we are not killing the soul and only the body, Creation of matter from nothing, Modern education is actually ignorance.

SB 2.7.49 TRANSLATION:

The Personality of Godhead is the supreme master of everything auspicious because the results of whatever actions are performed by the living being, in either the material or spiritual existence, are awarded by the Lord. As such, He is the ultimate benefactor. Every individual living entity is unborn, and therefore even after the annihilation of the material elementary body, the living entity exists, exactly like the air within the body.

The living entity is unborn and eternal, and as confirmed in the Bhagavad-gītā (2.30), the living entity is not exhausted even though the material elementary body is vanquished.

BG 2.30

dehī nityam avadhyo ’yaṁ

dehe sarvasya bhārata

tasmāt sarvāṇi bhūtāni

na tvaṁ śocitum arhasi

O descendant of Bharata, he who dwells in the body can never be slain. Therefore you need not grieve for any living being.

BG 2.12, BG 2.20, BG 2.30 We are souls and are eternal

As long as the living entity is in material existence, actions performed by him are rewarded in the next life, or even in the present life.

Rewarded – good action – good result, bad action, bad result, but we are not liberated

Similarly, in his spiritual life also actions are rewarded by the Lord by the five kinds of liberation.

Neutral relationship with the lord – Grass, trees, mountains,.. Plants, birds in goloka

Even the impersonalist cannot achieve the desired merging into the existence of the Supreme without being favored by the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

No one gets anything unless Krsna sanctions it. He is the supreme Iswara, parameshwara. Whether good karma, bad karma or liberation.

It is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gītā (4.11) that the Lord awards similar results, as one desires, in one’s present life. The living entities are given freedom to make their choice, and the Lord awards them accordingly.

BG 4.11 (Lord rewards us)

ye yathā māṁ prapadyante

tāṁs tathaiva bhajāmy aham

mama vartmānuvartante

manuṣyāḥ pārtha sarvaśaḥ

As all surrender unto Me, I reward them accordingly. Everyone follows My path in all respects, O son of Pṛthā.

Every sentence of the purport has sastric evidence.. We all have limited free will – we choose to follow Krsna or not follow Krsna. (BG 15.7)

BG 15.7 (Karma)

mamaivāṁśo jīva-loke

jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ

manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi

prakṛti-sthāni karṣati

The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal fragmental parts. Due to conditioned life, they are struggling very hard with the six senses, which include the mind.

This explains karma.. The mistakes of the conditioned living being are explained in Damodarahstakam..

Damodarastakam verse 3

Those superexcellent pastimes of Lord Krishna’s babyhood drowned the inhabitants of Gokula in pools of ecstasy. To the devotees who are attracted only to His majestic aspect of Narayana in Vaikuntha, the Lord herein reveals: “I am conquered and overwhelmed by pure loving devotion.” To the Supreme Lord, Damodara, my obeisances hundreds and hundreds of times.

Damodarastakam verse 4

O Lord, although You are able to give all kinds of benedictions, I do not pray to You for liberation, nor eternal life in Vaikuntha, nor any other boon. My only prayer is that Your childhood pastimes may constantly appear in my mind. O Lord, I do not even want to know your feature of Paramatma. I simply wish that Your childhood pastimes may ever be enacted in my heart.

Devotee has no material desires… if you have a material desire you get entrapped by Maya. KC is the process of purifying the desires. It is impossible to eliminate the desires.
Modern education is actually ignorance. It just teaches people to be sense gratifiers. Maharaj asked Shanmukh what their friends talk about – Movies, Video games, Sports.. That is called sense gratification.. That is what they are meditating on all the time. What happens you will definitely be in this material world, always going to be struggling.

Modern education is a curse – to be sense gratifiers the rest of your life.

Christians – Daily devotionals, 24 hours devotion book, Jews have it, Muslims, have it.. They know about God. But they do not know the science of God. SP says this is the science of Krsna.

Science of Krsna – science means what is true is in all frames of reference for all time. That is real science. What is true?  We are all subordinate to God. God has mutually contradictory activities. This is something that is not understood in other religions. Example – Krishna dancing with Gopis, Asking Arjuna to kill.. SP is presenting the Science of God. You have to read the whole SB to understand the science of God.  18,000 verse in SB. Verse a day – how many years – 50 years. You would have to spend a life time to learn the science of God. That is how complicated it is.. If you skip days, how are you going to understand this? We can never understand fully as Krsna is always expanding. It is acintya – simultaneously inconceivably one and different. We have 4 defects. The cheating propensity took place in islam, jainism, judaism. It can happen in Iskcon also, anyone who does not read SB everyday and discuss it is very easy to fall down. There are only 2 things Krsna and Maya. If you are not KC 24 hrs a day then some part of the day you are in Maya. This is science. One has to be absolutely pure, Always engage in dev service. Whether you are working, married..  There is the art of work, how you can direct everything you do in your life to Krsna. But even one material desire will destroy everything. What happens if you have hundreds of material desires? Pure dev service 24 hours a day, that was vedic culture previously.. In Ayodhya – everyone was focused on Rama. In Krsna’s time there everyone was focused on Krsna..

The impersonalist, instead of speculating or meditating, can directly execute the routine devotional service of the Lord and thus easily obtain the desired goal.

If you have material desires or spiritual desires, always only go to Krsna. The whole Govardhan pastime is to teach us not to worship demigods. There is no worship of Govardhan in vedas, that is what Krsna’s dad says.. But Krsna refutes and asks him to Worship Govardhan. The depth of realizations, the message  of the past time of Govardhan are fabulous, mind blowing and amazing, brilliant.  There is no difference between Krsna and Govardhan, Govardhan manifested this huge form and started honoring the prasadam with His hands.. And vrajas saw Him taking the boga.. Indra gets upset.. He gets puffed up.. But he finally get defeated. If you hear the prayers of Indra it is amazing. He did not doubt Krsn but he did not understand how a 7 year old can be more powerful than him.

If you want to know who someone is, give them power.. Indra got puffed up, Brahma got puffed up, we get puffed up, But Krsna always prevails. He is parameshwara.

What is actual Killing ? If we are not killing the soul and only killing the soul?

Non Violence – BG 13.8-12 Nonviolence is generally taken to mean not killing or destroying the body, but actually nonviolence means not to put others into distress.

This is a very interesting purport. Explains things as they are. There are so many explanations of things as they are not.

Questions of the origin of Living entities, origin of material nature for centuries. It was debated for thousands of years.. By many civilizations – ancient Greeks, other cultures, west of India..  and even in modern times.

Many different aspects of those discussions are wrong. We can see how wrong people can be due to using their own logic and reasoning or borrowing the logic and reasoning from other cultures.. And not being associated with the pure devotees, they are unable to get the right answers for these enigmatic questions.

Enigmatic – Difficult to interpret or understand.

Kriyatni athanilo – God was created from nothing. Nothing comes from Nothing.

Creation from NOthing – is the position of Christians, Islam, Jadaism.

Creatio ex nihilo: the creation of matter

Creatio ex nihilo, in contrast to ex nihilo nihil fit, is the idea that matter is not eternal but was created by God at the initial cosmic moment.[13] In the second century a new cosmogony arose, articulated by Plotinus, that the world was an emanation from God and thus part of God. This view of creation was repugnant to Christian church fathers as well as to Arabic and Hebrew philosophers, and they forcefully argued for the otherness of God and his creation and that God created all things from nothing by the word of God.[14] The first articulation of the notion of creation ex nihilo is found in the 2nd century writing To Autocylus (2.10) authored by Theophilus of Antioch.[15] By the beginning of the 3rd century the tension was resolved and creation ex nihilo had become a fundamental tenet of Christian theology.[16] Theophilus of Antioch is the first post New Testament author to unambiguously argue for an ontological ex nihilo creation from nothing, contrasting it to the views of Plato and Lucretius who asserted clearly that matter was preexistent.[17]

SB 2.7.47 – Part 3 Notes- 11/03/21

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HH HARIVILAS MAHARAJ’S MORNING BHAGAVATAM CLASS ON SB 2.7.47 – Part 3 TODAY (11/03/21):

  • The relationship with the Lord is never broken; thus there is no grief and no fear. Such happiness is inexplicable by words, and there can be no attempt to generate such happiness by fruitive activities by arrangements and sacrifices.
  • The unbroken happiness exchanged with the Supreme Person, the Personality of Godhead as described in this verse, transcends the impersonal conception of the Upaniṣads.
  • In the Upaniṣads the description is more or less negation of the material conception of things, but this is not denial of the transcendental senses of the Supreme Lord.
  • The word śuddham indicates that the senses of the Personality of Godhead are not made of the material elements; they are all transcendental, free from all contamination of material identification.
  • The liberated souls are not devoid of senses; otherwise there cannot be any reciprocation of unhampered spiritual happiness exchanged between them in spontaneous unbroken joy.
  • All the senses, both of the Lord and of the devotees, are without material contamination.
  • They are beyond the material cause and effects. The illusory, material energy cannot work there, being ashamed before the Lord and His transcendental devotees.
  • In the material world the sense activities are not without grief, but here it is clearly said that the senses of the Lord and the devotees are without any grief.
  • There is a distinct difference between the material and spiritual senses. And one should understand it without denying the spiritual senses because of a material conception

SB 2.7.47 – 11/03/21

What is realized as the Absolute Brahman is full of unlimited bliss without grief. That is certainly the ultimate phase of the supreme enjoyer, the Personality of Godhead. He is eternally void of all disturbances and is fearless. He is complete consciousness as opposed to matter. Uncontaminated and without distinctions, He is the principle primeval cause of all causes and effects, in whom there is no sacrifice for fruitive activities and in whom the illusory energy does not stand.

SP describes this verse as  “this verse is all about the unlimited bliss without grief and it is an exposition of the unbroken happiness exchanged with Krsna”  – This verse is a very very special verse and purport. This verse is giving a window of view of the fifth dimension. There are 5 amazing dimensions of consciousness. This is explained in 13th chapter BG. BG 13.5 – called Brahma Pucham.

BG 13.5

As stated before, kṣetra is the field of activities, and there are two kinds of kṣetra-jña: the individual living entity and the supreme living entity. As stated in the Taittirīya Upaniṣad (2.5), brahma pucchaṁ pratiṣṭhā. There is a manifestation of the Supreme Lord’s energy known as anna-maya, dependence upon food for existence. This is a materialistic realization of the Supreme. Then, in prāṇa-maya, after realizing the Supreme Absolute Truth in food, one can realize the Absolute Truth in the living symptoms or life forms. In jñāna-maya, realization extends beyond the living symptoms to the point of thinking, feeling and willing. Then there is Brahman realization, called vijñāna-maya, in which the living entity’s mind and life symptoms are distinguished from the living entity himself. The next and supreme stage is ānanda-maya, realization of the all-blissful nature. Thus there are five stages of Brahman realization, which are called brahma puccham.

This verse explains the Ananda maya – all blissful nature.. Unending bliss, with no grief and no fear.  It is not something based on plumbing. That is the description of the genitalia of people.. People think through this genitalia one can achieve some ecstasy. That is not how people can achieve ecstasy in the spiritual world.  Therefore hearing about Krsna’s loving pastimes with the Gopis  should not be done until one is free from the plumbing concept of sense gratification. It has nothing to do with that. What is this transcendental ecstasy? Well it is felt in the body in the spiritual body and not the material body. It is something connected through bodily movements of Krsna;s body, his eyelashes, smile, and different facial expressions. It could be in one sense like the facial and bodily expressions of BHaratanatyam dancers.. In the spiritual world, there is a spiritual body.. Spiritual senses.

You will not get it through the plumbing.. Everyone wants the unending bliss but does not want to follow the process given to get there.

As such, there is an unlimited flow of everlasting happiness, without the fear of its being broken as we have experienced here in the material world. The relationship with the Lord is never broken; thus there is no grief and no fear. Such happiness is inexplicable by words, and there can be no attempt to generate such happiness by fruitive activities by arrangements and sacrifices. But we must also know that happiness, unbroken happiness exchanged with the Supreme Person, the Personality of Godhead as described in this verse, transcends the impersonal conception of the Upaniṣads.

The relationship with Krsna is never broken – We can walk away from Krsna. But HE never walks away from us. He is present as Paramatma in our heart and is always guiding us. Imagine living without grief and fear. These two things are omnipresent in the material world but not in the spiritual world. These statements in this paragraph are phenomenal..

Upanishads do not explain this unending bliss.. Nor is it there in the Bible or Quran.. Muslims do not agree that Jesus is the son of God, they just say he is a messenger. That is they believe cannot have children as he cannot have sex like man beings.  But that does not mean that GOD cannot have a son.  If you try to understand the supreme absolute truth with mundane logic  and reason. You will always make mistakes. Michael Angelo painted the God picture with wrinkles and grey hair. The pope told him. They do not have the correct understanding of supreme absolute truth.. Christians bury dead bodies. So there can be resurrection. Christianity has much more transcendetal stuff than Islam or Judaism.

Bin Laden’s body was thrown in the ocean. Dead bodies were wrapped in Pig skin and buried..

Anytime you say GOD cannot do this and do that then you made a mistake.

The Television program of Maharaj – Salim and Sikh agreed that God does not have a body and does not have a son. Maharaj said – If you say God does not have Body then you are insulting God.

In the Upaniṣads the description is more or less negation of the material conception of things, but this is not denial of the transcendental senses of the Supreme Lord.

Atmavan manyate – you project your limitations to God. God is not like us at all. Material conceptions of life – Forgetfulness of Lord Krsna, everything that follows is ignorance. False hope of achieving material peace, happiness and love. They sugar coat it. Would you eat an ant? Would you eat chocolate covered ant.. You might eat it… This is the way they sell things. It is a trick.  This is the deception that is happening all the time..

Material conception of life – BOOKLET written by Maharaj??

Herein also the same is affirmed in the statement that the Supreme Lord is pure (śuddham). The word śuddham indicates that the senses of the Personality of Godhead are not made of the material elements; they are all transcendental, free from all contamination of material identification. And also the liberated souls are not devoid of senses; otherwise there cannot be any reciprocation of unhampered spiritual happiness exchanged between them in spontaneous unbroken joy. All the senses, both of the Lord and of the devotees, are without material contamination. They are so because they are beyond the material cause and effects, as clearly mentioned herein (sad-asataḥ param). The illusory, material energy cannot work there, being ashamed before the Lord and His transcendental devotees. In the material world the sense activities are not without grief, but here it is clearly said that the senses of the Lord and the devotees are without any grief. There is a distinct difference between the material and spiritual senses. And one should understand it without denying the spiritual senses because of a material conception

If the senses were only material it is not possible to transform or change them into spiritual things which they are not.  Our senses are transcendental. That is why it is possible to reagan functioning spiritual senses even in the material body..  Sanjaya is able to see what is happening in Kurukshetra.

Material world is also spiritual apara prakriti. It is Inferior spiritual energy.

They say that there is nothing after death. Everyday we are dying when we sleep. Then you wake up and you are there again.

False promises of scientists – one day we will create an AI computer which loves or shows affection.

Can the computer love someone, express affection? They can program the computer. Does that mean the computer loves you. All you need to do is to take the battery off the computer and it will no longer say the  love you phrases. Just like if there is no Sun then everything dies away. The sun has be pouring out unlimited energy

The senses in the material world are surcharged with material ignorance. In every way, the authorities have recommended purification of the senses from the material conception. In the material world the senses are manipulated for individual and personal satisfaction, whereas in the spiritual world the senses are properly used for the purpose for which they were originally meant, namely the satisfaction of the Supreme Lord. Such sensual activities are natural, and therefore sense gratification there is uninterrupted and unbroken by material contamination because the senses are spiritually purified. And such satisfaction of the senses is equally shared by the transcendental reciprocators. Since the activities are unlimited and constantly increasing, there is no scope for material attempts or artificial arrangements. Such happiness of transcendental quality is called brahma-saukhyam, which will be clearly described in the Fifth Canto.

SB 2.7.47  – Part 2 Notes – 11/02/21

KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM HH HARIVILAS MAHARAJ’S MORNING BHAGAVATAM CLASS ON SB 2.7.47  – Part 2 TODAY (11/02/21):

  • The Supreme Lord is the Supreme Soul of everything, and therefore in the supreme conception affection is realized.
  • The conception of affection is due to the relationship of soul to soul.
  • A father is affectionate to his son because there is some relationship of nearness between the son and the father. But that sort of affection in the material world is full of limitations.
  • When the Personality of Godhead is met, the fullness of affection becomes manifested because of the reality of the affectionate relationship.
  • He is not the object of affection by material tinges of body and mind, but He is the full, naked, uncontaminated object of affection for all living entities because He is the Supersoul, or Paramātmā, within everyone’s heart.
  • In the liberated state of affairs, the full-fledged affection for the Lord is awakened.
  • Real affection – If someone teaches you how to stop suffering and attain an eternal body and go back to Godhead, then that is real affection.
  • How Britishers destroyed the Faith and culture of India was discussed today.
  • Lord Macaulay was sent to report how Indians can be governed nicely. So he reported that if you keep the Indians as Indians, you will never be able to govern them, because they are superior. You make propaganda that they are inferior, and they will imitate you.
  • Britishers simply made propaganda that “Whatever you have got in India, this is all allegory, fiction. These śāstras are nothing. But now you are learning from us England’s work in India. That is your real… You are becoming civilized now.
  •  This propaganda is the cause of India’s cultural falldown. “England’s work in India.” That was a compulsory reading book in the schools. And in that book, it was simply stated that “We are uncivilized and since the Britishers have come, we are becoming civilized.”
  • So the so-called Indian-educated, they took it seriously. Just like our Bon Mahārāja = English way of living, with fork and… Yes. He has taken it seriously. He is under impression, “Whatever is foreign.” In this way Indian culture was killed.
  • The Muhammadans, they had no such idea. They wanted to rule over, that’s all. And the money was not going to outside. They were spending lavishly—in India. The money was in India, but these people, they’re dispersing all the money, jewels and everything valuable, outside India. So they became poverty-stricken, and culturally conquered.

SB 2.7.47 – 11/02/21

The Supreme Lord is the Supreme Soul of everything, and therefore in the supreme conception affection is realized. The conception of affection is due to the relationship of soul to soul. In the liberated state of affairs, the full-fledged affection for the Lord is awakened.

The Supreme Lord is present as paramatma in everyone’s heart. What is real affection and the facsimile of real affection. What we are seeing here is not the real thing. It is just like a shadow.. The shadow indicates that there is a real thing somewhere. What we see here is the shadow perverted reflection. Whenever we see anything in relationship with Krsna we will see the new thing.  The affection between father and son is a bodily relationship. Under a state of illusion we only want ignorance. Most of the relations in the material world is body to body and not soul to soul.

Without understanding the difference between body and soul there is no spiritual progress.  Inebrity – (Habitual intoxication) starts when one accepts the illusion as real.

Real affection – If someone teaches you how to stop suffering and attain an eternal body and go back to Godhead, then that is real affection.

Example – One person;s father passed away and his lesson to him before leaving his body, after living 80 years of life –  no one can take education from you and your family from you.  This is bodily instruction and it is false and not the Truth.

Education – Drona; Family – Bhishma – these are the greatest impediments for one to progress in a spiritual path.

Tinges – color slightly.. SP is belittling to the extreme point.

BG 13.8-12 – we are not against family

As for detachment from children, wife and home, it is not meant that one should have no feeling for these. They are natural objects of affection. But when they are not favorable to spiritual progress, then one should not be attached to them. The best process for making the home pleasant is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. If one is in full Kṛṣṇa consciousness, he can make his home very happy, because this process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is very easy. One need only chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare, accept the remnants of foodstuffs offered to Kṛṣṇa, have some discussion on books like Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and engage oneself in Deity worship. These four things will make one happy. One should train the members of his family in this way. The family members can sit down morning and evening and chant together Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. If one can mold his family life in this way to develop Kṛṣṇa consciousness, following these four principles, then there is no need to change from family life to renounced life.

What is real knowledge? It is explained in BG 13.8-12. Real Knowledge is when one knows that the body is different from the Soul. There is a soul and supreme soul in every body and the relationship between the soul and the super soul.. Today they do not believe that there is a soul. “Psychology today” well written article by a man called Lanza.. He talks about the modern concept of soul..  “Soul is treated as a poetic synonym for the mind.  Soul can be learnt by studying the functioning of the soul… “What is wisdom – Vijnana – you understand the relation between atma and paramatma and understand that everything is coming from Krsna.. And engaging in devotional service is real wisdom. Definition of wisdom is so shallow and incomplete and SRILA PRABHUPADA defines words in his texts,

TRANSCRIPT – (https://vedabase.io/en/library/transcripts/720928mwla/)

Morning Walk LA 1972, LA

Prabhupāda: Yes, propaganda. That is the cause of India’s cultural falldown. These Britishers simply made propaganda that “Whatever you have got in India, this is all allegory, fiction. These śāstras are nothing. But now you are learning from us England’s work in India. That is your real… You are becoming civilized now.

Otherwise, you are in the utopia, and all these śāstras, throw it out.” Because that was Lord Macaulay’s policy.Lord Macaulay was sent to report how Indians can be governed nicely. So he reported that if you keep the Indians as Indians, you will never be able to govern them, because they are superior. You make propaganda that they are inferior, and they will imitate you, and then you can… That they did.

Jayatīrtha: The Indians would never be able to compete on the Britishers’ platform.

Prabhupāda: No. It was under the British rule, from the childhood they are subjected to the propaganda. We read one book, small book, by M. Ghose. The subject matter was “England’s work in India.” That was a compulsory reading book in the schools. And in that book, it was simply stated that “We are uncivilized and since the Britishers have come, we are becoming civilized.” This is the subject matter of that book, “England’s work in India.” So everything Indian… The Jawaharlal is the typical example—“Everything Indian is bad.” That was his philosophy. Gandhi was trying to get the Indians back to village. His philosophy was that these capitalists, they are exploiting these poor men, so all these poor men, they should go back to village and be satisfied with the village economy, not to come out. Actually that’s a very nice program. But as soon as Gandhi died, or he was killed, the whole program was changed—industrialization, and attract the poor man, and let them live in wretched condition of city life. Gandhi’s policy was to make them happy by agriculture in the village, produce their own cloth, not in the mill but in charka.

Jayatīrtha: Spinning wheel.

Prabhupāda: Spinning wheel, they were spinning thread. Simple life and moralist. No drinking of ghee… tea, no smoking, and raghupati rāghava rāja rāma. This was his program. Hindu-Muslim unity. But all his programs failed. He died very dissatisfied.

Jayatīrtha: Why did they fail?

Prabhupāda: Because his disciples, they had a different program. They wanted politics like the Western countries. They did not want… Just like all the politician, they do not want anything good for the people. They simply want to make some money for their expenses. That’s all. This is the whole policy of the modern diplomats and politicians. They do not know; you go to hell. Other way, in your country you see so many young men are frustrated.

HOW BRITISHERS BREAK DOWN INDIA

https://vedabase.io/en/library/transcripts/760803r2nmr

ROOM Conversation

Date: Aug. 3, 1976

Harikeśa: Tomatoes don’t grow in India?

Prabhupāda: No. It was imported. Because it was imported, they would not touch. These mill cloth, because they were imported, it would…, no gentleman will touch. No religious function would allow to use mill-made cloth. And so far medicine is concerned, they would never touch it. This is the difficulty. Then Macaulay sent a confidential report that if you want to keep Indians as Indian, you’ll never be able to do like that. Then they will gradually introduce all this nonsense—drinking tea, drinking wine. “You are uncivilized. Whatever British are doing, they are civilized way.” England’s work in India. And they were given facilities, those who were English-educated. In this way, they first of all tried to make the whole Indian population Anglici… Not possible to all. At least, those who are educated. So the so-called Indian-educated, they took it seriously. Just like our Bon Mahārāja = English way of living, with fork and… Yes. He has taken it seriously. He is under impression, “Whatever is foreign.” In this way Indian culture was killed. The Muhammadans, they had no such idea. They wanted to rule over, that’s all. And the money was not going to outside. They were spending lavishly—in India. The money was in India, but these people, they’re dispersing all the money, jewels and everything valuable, outside India. So they became poverty-stricken, and culturally conquered.

Bon Maharaj  – the first disciple of BhaktiSiddhanta Saraswati Thakur..who was sent to London to preach. BSST funded him 700 rupees to go to London. He stayed there for 4 years and then came back not even making one disciple and then told BSST that his process did not work and insulted him. Bon Maharaj was the same level as Aurobindo. He was very sophisticated and was number 1 disciple until that disaster. He was very philosophical, highly educated in British education system.. That caused the failure.

People are thinking that there are no rules. That is how ignorant that people became. This is all due to Brahmanas not educating the masses.

Meat eating is a norm mainstream for many Hindus. They attend muslim functions so they can get to eat meat. The culture got degraded.

We are all having corruption due to the education we had, but by hearing everyday the corruption is decreasing. One has to be willing to do this.

Muslims are straight and they tell you.. But Britsh are very scary they got into the minds of Indians and destroyed the faith of the Indians in Scriptures and their culture.

BG 8.9 (Krsna is present as supreme soul in every living entity and atom)

As the Supreme, He can enter into the atom and into the heart of the smallest and control him as the Supersoul. Although so small, He is still all-pervading and is maintaining everything. By Him all these planetary systems are sustained. We often wonder how these big planets are floating in the air. It is stated here that the Supreme Lord, by His inconceivable energy, is sustaining all these big planets and systems of galaxies. The word acintya (“inconceivable”) is very significant in this connection. God’s energy is beyond our conception, beyond our thinking jurisdiction, and is therefore called inconceivable (acintya). Who can argue this point? He pervades this material world and yet is beyond it. We cannot comprehend even this material world, which is insignificant compared to the spiritual world – so how can we comprehend what is beyond? Acintya means that which is beyond this material world, that which our argument, logic and philosophical speculation cannot touch, that which is inconceivable. Therefore intelligent persons, avoiding useless argument and speculation, should accept what is stated in scriptures like the Vedas, Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and follow the principles they set down. This will lead one to understanding.
